Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Jared Bulter would like a word. You also forgot Melo hung all those banners too.

Saying Lauri will go God mode like Jimmy in the playoffs is a guess... I hope its right.
Funny thing, that God mode. On the official FIBA site they say "Lauri Markkanen played as if he'd descended from heaven." He played on a different level, personally dragging one of the worst teams in the tournament to the quarter finals.

Not sure what trading for big stars has to do with my argument but I would simply say there are smart ways to do so and dumb ways and the majority of the recent ones were acts of desperation, which is never good.
And that is exactly the scenario I would look to take advantage of here... if it came up. I brought it up as more often than not teams would prefer the incoming pieces to the outgoing star in hindsight.

And your logic works if and only if you dont believe you could have built successfully around a proven piece that we already have. I think we could have been very successful doing so and what we got for each piece proves it.
We could have retooled... but the same folks that can't comprehend the rebuilding effort and selling off good players for assets would also be puzzled at breaking up a star duo.

And if were weren't retooling we could have gotten a lot more out of the dumb trades we did that would not have been needed or could have landed us something real. You can like the approach all you want but as one who consults with companies on business models calling this diversifying the portfolio makes no sense to me. We went all in on our view of unproven talent.
We broke up single assets with huge liabilities attached to them for baskets of assets - players, picks, prospects, cap flexibility. Makes a ton of sense.

Rebuilding is sometimes needed but doing it in a way that is self inflicted is risky which is exactly what we did.
Waiting to rebuild when its fairly obvious it needs to happen helps reduce the amount of pain you will endure. Its riskier to wait a year too long and have a contract look like a millstone rather than an asset. We had a ripe environment with lots of buyers. "self inflicted" rebuilding could also be called proactive rebuilding.

Every year we miss the playoffs it is because we chose to do so, not because we needed to.
I guess... but if we are retooling we likely do a different Rudy or Don trade that isn't future facing... so maybe you do a worse deal and end up missing the playoffs and the assets. Honestly we could have made the playoffs this year if we wanted to... I think we make the play in next year. One year out of the playoffs is worth what we have on the ledger now.

Hope it works out and happy to agree to disagree on how we got here. At least when kcgar from the Jazz FO disagrees with me I know I am on the right track. I am guessing he likes the horrible jerseys we now have.
Clear that we disagree and I'm fine with that. @kcgar is a hero

All this talk of retooling has put only one thought in my head.

It would be like a Metallica sequel.

And that is great... and its not far off what he did in the NBA... just don't think its an indicator of future NBA playoff performance. If he is 10% better in the playoffs than in the regular season then that's amazing.

Article also stated he was one of the biggest stars in the NBA... I hope that is true as well.

We also seen what happens in a half *** retool vs a rebuild.

I love the hypothetical Detroit trade. I would take Jarace Walker. Durable, better body type to match Lauri..good long-term match. Great ball mover and the front court terrorizes the league. Then I would trade 16 and 28 to find a nother good wing player, i.e., Bilal.

And finally I would try to buy back in the 2nd round for Isiah Wong for a quality point guard according to the advanced stats. Not super star but very efficient productive and can play in the league. Otherwise look for a Gleague scrub.

This would be a great balanced team..just need the Conley sauve/grit..

Dunn/Wong/THT
Jordan/Sexton/Bilal
Lauri/Fontechio
Jarace/Gay
Kessler/Jones/Dok
Lol, you have THT third string behind some second round rookie?? That’s cute.

Lauri for Shaedon Sharpe and the top 3 pick maybe makes our timelines match. I bet Ainge would want another pick and I wouldn't blame him for not doing it without an unprotected 2028 First Round Pick.

And honestly, if we moved up for the 3rd pick, then I would trade the 3rd to Detroit for the 5th plus an asset so they can get Scoot. We end up with Amen or Cam Whitmore and we are happy with either.
