Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

trumps messaging on the economy has shifted from "we are all gonna be so rich" to "you all are too materialistic and need to buy less stuff and sure things will cost more but you can just spend less".
Which really goes against the plan to bring manufacturing back to America. If you are wanting to open a production facility in America and the man who seems to control the economy right now is telling consumers to buy less stuff then opening a production facility to produce things that people are buying less of doesn't seem like a good idea.

Well and if you are a serious manufacturer you can do simple arithmetic. They consider building a major manufacturing facility. Finding a location takes at least a few months. Getting architectural plans drawn up, at least a few months. Getting permits and necessary utility work done, possibly years but lets say things are perfect and it just takes a few months. We are now comfortably more than a year into the process and we haven't broken ground yet. Construction begins, takes 18 months. We are talking about heavy industrial construction here, high voltage, stronger than normal foundation, safety regulations, etc.. Now capital equipment needs to be installed. It was ordered while the everything else was going on so it might be ready to go once construction is finished. Install takes 6 months to a year before the equipment is ready to produce sellable product, for certain industries (medical, semiconductor) it will be much longer than that. Now the nightmare of hiring all your skilled positions begins. You can begin production on a limited basis with less than the final headcount but even that takes about 8 months with finding, interviewing, background checking, relocating (you're gonna need to relocate a lot of the skilled labor most likely), training, replacing as there will be turnover right from the start. Now you're more than 4 years into this deal and you're producing at 30% your total capacity. Assuming getting above 80% capacity soon it will take ten years before you've paid for all these startup costs. Trump is no longer in office and work has begun to renormalize U.S. trade relations with the rest of the world. It no longer makes sense to build whatever it is you're building here so you shut down before you ever really begin producing.

No one is going to do this.

This kind of stuff is just not understood by the vast majority of Americans. My wife got into it with some of her facebook contacts about manufacturing coming back to America. I helped her through the discussion because she didn't understand it well either. In the end she put up a poll asking how many people would want to take a new manufacturing job. I think it was 32 people that responded, every one of them said "No". Unemployment has been at all time lows for many of the past 20 years, so who is going to work at these new jobs? They had no answer for that. But they went back to "but it is necessary for us to compete in the world and keep them from ripping us off", even though by literally every measure except health care and retirement, we are the richest country on the planet. But the cult of the Orange God-king is strong and dedicated to the cause.

Conservatives becoming anti-consumerists is one hell of a twist.

It is deeply disappointing. I don't understand it. I don't understand imposing tariffs on everyone. I don't understand threatening Canada with annexation. All Trump had to do was end the weaponization of the justice system, roll back the woke garbage imposed by Biden, audit federal spending for fraud, waste & abuse, close the southern border, and play golf for the next 3 1/2 years.

Yes, tariffs are going to hurt others more than they hurt us, BUT THEY STILL HURT US!!!!

Almost like this whole economic anxiety thingie was a media creation to take the focus off the racism, misogyny, and privilege many bored and embittered Americans possess against their own country and its people. It’s always easier to invent rational actions on people rather than admit their actions are completely irrational. A lot of those on your wife’s Facebook page are bored. But they’ll whine about America being ripped off and how they’re all victims by “they” without ever being able to articulate who “they” actually are and what they’ve done to harm them.

“Elites! Globalists! Woke! They took yer jobs! But no, not those ****** jobs that I don’t wanna work…”

Weird stuff.

Another Navy fighter jet sank to the bottom of the Red Sea on Tuesday following the second such mishap aboard the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in just over a week, a U.S. official told ABC News.

In February, the Truman collided with a large merchant vessel in the vicinity of Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean Sea. That incident followed an accidental shootdown of another F/A-18 late last year by one of the surface ships belonging to the Truman strike group.

damn that ship is cursed

Imagine if Obama had done that…

I just wished we had adult leadership. And a religious people that cared. I’m guessing most Catholics will give him a free pass because he’s seen as being in their tribe.
Obama was too busy drone striking innocent people, bailing out big banks, and running Clintons torture program extraordinary rendition.
