Utah’s Missed Big Three

Curry was taking 5 3s a game in the mid 90s.

Unheard of under Sloan in any era.

Although trading him for 2 back-up Centers (one of them clearly washed up) is a bit of a mystery .

The Center spot at the time had a LOT more value than it does today. The Shooting Guard was a lot less valued than it is today. The 3 point shot was undervalued league wide, players weren't nearly as good at shooting the long ball and spreading the floor, the high post low post offense and defense was critical, and even if we had the pieces... coach sloan wouldnt have used a 3 point shooter anywhere close to how it is used today.

The real missed big three was Karl Malone, John Stockton and Dominique Wilkins. That trio would have been insane. They would have won multiple championships. The Jazz drafted and traded the rights to Dominique two years before drafting Stockton.

I have always wondered about this one. Growing up I had a strong hatred for Wilkins. He wasn't quiet at all about his discontent of being drafted by the Utah Jazz. He badly wanted to go back to where he played college and had family, Georgia. Back then and even now it's not common for a new draftee to be displeased about the team that drafts him and demanding a trade. And back then, trades for draft picks were obscure and often not balanced as far as talent. Nique has often said that he wonders what would've been playing along side of Stockton and Malone.
