Utes 2011 Football Discussion

I'm ssoooooo disappointed the direction of this Ute thread has turned to you let Conan and Trout turn this thread into crap.

I figured they fit into one of my analogy hypothesis and if you keep responding to them it ruins it. I figure they're like muts, they're lost, nobody wants them around, ugly and smelly but if you ignore them they eventually go away but if you show them any attention or eye contact they never go away.
Well that or they're like Herpes, there is no cure and never go away and always flare up at the worst times.

I actually like Trout, although I'm still trying to remedy that. The other guy is hopeless and I don't interact with him but I have to agree that your analogy is pretty dead on.

Ya, but think about how you GOT the herpes... 100% awesome.

I think a lot of Utah fans were relieved (or whatever you want to call it) when Wynn got hurt not because it gave them an excuse, but because it forced a change.

Wynn was pretty crappy this season. He appeared to be getting better, but he was never the QB that showed so much promise early last season before his first injury.

There were rumors that he wasn't 100% anyway, which is why he sucked. Either way, when he got hurt it forced the coaches to try something different. Plus, it gives Wynn plenty of time to recover and come into next season fully healthy and in sync with the rest of the team.

Whether Wynn returns as a starter or not, we know the Utes will have better depth at QB next year. And it probably won't hurt the Utes final record. At least not from this point forward.

As for the Utes final standing... Stanford, Oregon, Washington, ASU, and USC probably finish ahead of Utah this year. That still puts Utah in the top half of the conference. And this is rock bottom for Utah, it doesn't get any worse. To say Utah will be in the bottom half over a 10 year span is just crazy.

On BYU... They may be better off now than if they stayed in the MWC. But they may not. They have a better TV deal at the moment, but that could change if ESPN decides to bury their games on obscure channels and on weird days. Plus, they had better bowl games in the MWC and a better chance at getting to the BCS (at least before TCU and BSU and Air Force leave). What is not really debatable though, is that even if being independent is better than the MWC, the Big 12 is definitely better than being independent (with Notre Dame being the exception). If BYU has a chance to get into the Big 12, and they may have a chance with the Big East looking like it may survive, then BYU needs to do whatever they have to do in order to get in.

BYU definitely walks a different path compared to pretty much every other college out there. That doesn't mean it's the better path but definitely different and people are judging BYU like they are not a different college. Doing what's best for BYU won't necessarily be best for BYU football. It seems the current mantra in college football is to do what's best for the football team. And that's fine and not bad, but it's not BYU and never has been.

Feel sorry for Bronco though in this context.

pic removed

anyone hear about this? 19 utah football players got stuck in a elevator for 50 minutes before they were rescued.

Aside from Utah's QB problems, I think they have a very good roster. It's also a very young roster that I think has tremndous potential in the future. I feel no need to apologize for that just because you've accepted your teams "sucktitude".

Yay. It's near even now between being called a BYU fan and a Utah fan. I knew it'd even out eventually, right to the point where I want to see both teams lose.

Almost high enough quality to make millions in the NFL and yet steal tens of thousands of dollars worth of gas. Nothing says quality character like a millionaire who steals his gas.

I'm sure Trout doesn't judge Reno as harshly as he does some teenager for the Utes who flipped the bird in a pic.

Nice win for Utah. I really felt the defense rebounded well last week against ASU but that was a little tough to notice thanks to the 5 Utah turnovers. They played even better today. Never thought they'd be able to basically shut down Graham completely. Nice to see the offense not turn the ball over but you can't keep settling for FG's.

I heard an interesting stat about Pitt the other day. I think it was that they have out-gained all other Pitt teams through this point in the season. That includes the Tony Dorsett era.

If this is true, gotta give major props to that Utah defense.
