simple.
Freedom of speech.
But not freedom of consequences (political or otherwise).
I have no problem with his protest. I also have no problem with some having a problem with it. Duh.
#freedom
Don't #freedom
Letting this devolve into freedom to protest and freedom to anti-protest is just a way to avoid the real issue. That is not a position because it avoids the issue entirely. Are you truly that weak? Think about the real issue goddamnit. A sizeable chunk of our population still feels marginalized, persecuted, and underserved. They also have the stats to back it up.

**** stats. Sack up. Stand up. Sit down.
Or whatever the **** you want. Just put your palm-up-hand-down and work for what you believe. No matter race, religion, nationality, or whatever.
I'm tired of "issues."
He just agreed with the right to do it, but that isn't enough?
Yes, a big chunk feels those things. It is sad that the one REAL tool that can be used, a vote, is given over and over to the same people who continue the same policies that continue to marginalize and underserve the people feeling that way in the first place.
Votes will change how things are. If what he is doing causes people to talk about issues that make the usual apathetic, YES I said it, and its 'mostly' true, you know this, apathetic citizen learn something, bonus points. Do something that matters. He donated a million dollars recently I know. That matters.
You are aware that people can thoroughly examine an issue and thoughtfully form an opinion that might conflict with yours? No matter how emotional or 'right' you feel you are.
That's not how the world works. That's the problem.
What if someone grabbed their dick during the National Anthem?
What if someone grabbed their dick during the National Anthem?
Replace it with a Heil salute to Silver and those white "slave" owners and bigoted TV execs who are responsible for giving these poor, persecuted, oppressed people $500K-$30M per year.
Meanwhile the African-American CEO at Kaiser makes ME slave away for much less than $100k. I wonder what I should do to protest?
I'd just be happy cuz after the national anthem comes basketball... And I love basketball.
Seriously though "raising awareness" is kind of weak. Go raise awareness by actually doing something meaning full. Sitting out the pledge is disrespectful to those that bled and died or lost someone close to them. This country will always have problems and we shouldn't ignore them but seriously sitting out the pledge and disrespecting police officers is lame. Kaep is more about the attention he is getting than the cause IMO.
I heard DMC is actually like working with some community groups to facilitate meaningful discussion. That's what we should be hearing about... Not lip service... Not look at me... Actual real stuff.
What if someone grabbed your dick during the national anthem? Would you stand and salute?
In our culture, you grab someone by the balls and command them to sing the national anthem backwards. They actually do it.What if someone grabbed their dick during the National Anthem?
He is not just giving lip service, he has donated money. Beside the fact that he has started a discussion that is long over due in this country. A topic many white people don't understand or don't want to have because they rather just brag about America greatness while completely ignore it's real history. You can't heal if you don't acknowledge the problem. What is wrong with complaining about police? There are good and bad police and turning away from this leads to the situation that has been going on too long in this country. Are police above the law? I guess some people think it is unpatriotic for people to complain about injustice unless it only happens to them.
The idea that athletes should shut up and not protest because they are at the work place is ridiculous. The main reason why people are at the stadium is because of the athletes. They should use their position to affect change in society instead of just partying and taking their money.
ummm his actions have facilitated a ton of discussion, including your post. If it wasn't provocative it would be ignored. CK reignited discussion about BLM when it seemed to be losing steam. Trump and the ignorant backlash, stupid rationalizations, and downright apathy was reasserting itself. Kaep may be a douche and he probably is but he and his fellow players have done something good by sitting out the anthem.
PS Trying to shame other people into falling in line by putting police officers on a pedestal or pretending that our national symbols only represent fallen soldiers is lame. Our active military men and veterans are not that dense though it appears that maybe a majority of our police are.
I wouldn't care. I really wouldn't. I've never understood why it's necessary to play the anthem at every game in every pro sports league in this country in the first place.
I totally agree. Well not that I hate the Anthem, it's fine enough. But mostly because America the Beautiful is a much superior song.I hate the national anthem. It sucks. It should be "America the Beautiful: Not "rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air" but "brotherhood, from sea to shining sea." That's what America is supposed to be about.
