So not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but the NBA has taken note of what we are doing here. Nobody thinks we are beating Houston, but some may be wavering... I think we have a legit shot. Harden/CP have notable playoff failings and their iso heavy style will rack up a ton of wins in the regular season, but can be planned for in the post season. The ball movement style that GS plays and SA played in the glory years is much harder to plan for...

So let's say we manage to pull the upset here... we go from good upstart that is attractive to young premier FAs... to one of the teams FAs should target if they want to win at the highest level.

We have:
- One young offensive stud locked into a cheap 4 year deal... who is all in on Utah.
- One defensive stud who is a defense unto himself and who makes a huge offensive impact without needing the ball... and is perfectly willing to do the dirty work to make others better.
- A genius coach who may or may not have a cocaine problem... but at least he looks like a cool guy and not a grandpa.
- A handful of high quality role players on good contracts.
- Cap flexibility and all our draft picks going forward.
- Dante could be something as well... if he pops then holy ****.

Win this series and we have all that in place and a role for a superstar to come in and still be a superstar... no backseat Chris Bosh BS... won't have to sacrifice much of anything.

Win this series and we go from guys considering coming here to guys saying that is where I want to go.

I have completely scoffed at the PG to Utah notion, but listened to Duncan's podcast this AM and thought... if you were PG and said hey I can opt in and force a trade to Utah (or any team I want to join) then these guys can give me a 5 year max 6 months after the trade. I'll maximize my career earning and have a legit shot at a title... now I don't think PG is that guy... but I can see a guy at his level looking at this and saying I want in.

Even Philly, who has an amazing setup, is going to need a guy willing to sacrifice role... Embiid and BS both need the ball in their hands.

Not saying we need a huge addition to be a contender, but getting elite talent without sacrificing assets really puts us in a place to do something amazing. Win and we will get someone in the next year or two... make noise and its just a maybe.

Like if we win this series we can go to Aaron Gordon, get a meeting and say look we will work out a sign and trade for you with the Magic, but you gotta go tell them you want to be here and you are out... just sign an offer sheet and they will match... you in?

Not sure we get a meeting before the OKC series and really think we'd have some pull if we win this series.

It's like when you date one hot girl in HS... then all of a sudden other hot girls are like that guy dates hot girls... and I'm a hot girl.

I was thinking along the same lines, but with a few caveats.

Rudy is a top 10 player in this league I believe. Mitchell will be there, if not already. More or less, that qualifies as a superstar in the NBA. The two can coexist easily because they only desire to win and influence different spheres of the game. What Utah needs is a straight and consistent #2 type of option to remove some of the load from DM while not sucking so bad on D that Rudy has to compensate. Also, in no uncertain terms, I do not want Mitchell or Rudy compromised in any way, shape, or form. Mitchell is the #1 guy on O and Rudy is the Eater of Worlds on D. The team must come first basically, so we shouldn't need to compromise or lose our other roleplayers unless it's for a proven upgrade.

So help me if we signed a Carmelo wannabe (or even Melo himself), then I am leading the riot.

We'll pretty much have our pick of Durrant, LBJ, Kawhi, Beal and Parker, right? Anyone else on the list? Giannis would come here if he could. All I can say is "Thank you for so kindly getting out of the way, Mr. Haywood."

F that, it's Hayward

I wouldn't go that far and if Haywood was here we'd already be a contender.

I'm looking hard at Aaron Gordon now... he could go to Orlando and say look I will go out and sign a max offer sheet with all the poison pills I can get just like Otto Porter and you can match... it will have limited trade value and we are really going no where so maybe you don't even want me here screwing up the tank... how about you sign and trade me to Utah for a 2019 FRP, Tony Bradley, AB the Houston killer, and these contracts which you can waive and save money.

Just trying to clear the cap to sign one of those guys is really difficult this year, but sign and trade might be doable.

Um Joe Ingles is already here. Not sure what more you could want?

I know I should just be grateful...

Favors may leave because he's been in Utah for quite a while and the grass is always greener.

But on the other hand how can he leave a set up like this?

I am catching TheJazzarelegitimatelyacontenderRIGHTNOWitis, and I think this is one of the most special teams in league history (they are the equivalent to the Borg). I would be very, very careful about disturbing what's happening, although I think the Jazz could stand to add more premier talent.

I've said this before, but I think Aaron Gordon could be a real serious piece worth targeting (carrying on a previous conversation). He seemed down to be drafted here to start with, and if this coaching staff can do with him what they've been able to do to just about everyone else that was willing to put the work in (most notably Rubio and Ingles), his positional versatility, premier athleticism, motor, and defense could take this team to the next level. I don't know where Favors would fit into all of that if it were to come up, but... yeah.

Anyway, I don't know. I've been thinking about this less because god damn it is this team special.

I was thinking the same thing. Utah is building something special here. Favors should be wanting to stay.

Mitchell
Crowder
Ingles
Gordon (especially if his shooting can improve)
Gobert

That is straight up ****ing nasty.

This is very true... I love Favs... not trying to send him packing... just think there is a chance for us to go from great to incredible.

This playoff run hopefully springboards us up in FAs minds.
