What's Really At Stake Here?

The other question I have is do we need another blue chip guy or do we build using pieces that help us exploit matchups. Pieces that do 80% of what an all star does but have limitations and just switch stuff out as needed. Favs being an example... not a playmaker or shooter (yet?) but provides a lot and creates some matchup issues.

Jae Crowder - good stretch 4 but has definite limitations... getting a stretch 4 without those limitations makes us how much better?

Like Khris Middleton... not KD, not LBJ, but can defend enough... good shooter... can get his own when he needs too. We need more shot creation... but I don't want it at the expense of ball stopping and bad defense.

Well, if I start there I cannot ban anyone else...

I might prefer Hezonja over Gordon. IDK...

I like Gordon and he’s so young... will have to pay a premium. I think you give that guy to a smart coaching staff and it may unlock some ****.

Like if Draymond was drafted by Orlando what does he look like?

I don’t think Aaron can be what dray is as a defender but he has an athletic ceiling that may make him a better overall offensive player.

How’s AG’s defense? Strengths and weaknesses? I know he’s athletic but I’ve tired of people assuming someone’s a good defender because they’re athletic (not saying he’s the case, I honestly haven’t seen enough of his defense).

As far as I'm aware, he's an elite defender

The only worry about Gordon is that he isn't proven yet. Maxing is banking on development as opposed to waiting on a dude like Middleton who is a much more proven player.

Consistency, some health issues this year, on a bad team.

I mean, probably? Or a closing lineup? I ain't trying to diss Rubio or Favors, either. But the size/switchability/toughness/D/spacing/physical dominance would just be awesome.

I don't like it but maybe it would work.

Agree here... ceiling is higher... floor could be bad. I think he’d be good in the right scheme... seems like a worker and smart guy. Just don’t think that team had the right kind of guys in the right positions to be good. Like any defense built around vucevic will be garbage. Also not enough shooters to maximize what he could bring as a stretchy, playmaking 4.

He’s 22... so the timeline works. I’d see if we could get a meeting and see what it’d cost in a trade with Orlando... if too spendy then wait.

I think the biggest consequence to winning this series is that it could drop Houston off as a destination for a lot of players. The two primary ball handler experiment could be called a bust. Chris Paul is a free agent and he may opt to go EAST (where things are easier) to pair up with Lebron (as has been rumored for a long time).

Also, the Jazz will officially be the new Spurs. The underestimated team that seems to perform year in and year out. We won't NEED another All Star to come to us so much but we will likely attract a few. More importantly we will develop our guys so well that people will say that we just get lucky in the draft. When the real secret behind the draft is Quin and Dennis.

What Hezonja gives up on the defensive end, he potentially makes up for on the offensive end. And that's what we need for Mitchell I think. A volume shooter who can pull out the defense.

Both are intriguing players and both with potential. We can't break the bank and we don't want to have a bad fit chemistry wise.

To offer GOrdon a max I think Exum and Favors would have to be renounced first thing, Jerebko option declined, and probably more. All for a player they would 90% match. Hezonja is a more realistic target.

Correct that’s why I proposed it as a sign and trade. Would Orlando rather have Gordon at a poisonous max deal or work a sign and trade that returns some assets? I’m guessing they chance it and just keep him.

I’m a little less for this deal after thinking about it though. I think there are two kinds of max players... those that give more/substantially more value or the ones that get the max because they are worth much more than 10-15 M per year but require a premium to get them in or retain them. Gordon is likely in the second group. I don’t know that he definitely grows into that and could go sideways like Wiggins.

If we get max guys they have to be worth it... if not we are better off trying to get value in FAs with less name value.

Outside of Draymond, what stretch 4 doesn’t have limitations?
