Sexton is a bad defender on all fronts. He does some fake hustle/effort stuff, but it isnt real locked in and engaged defense. Hopefully he can improve that. Some of it may just be symptoms of being on ****** teams were no one gives a **** and everyone is playing for themselves, idk.

Sexton isn't that small. He's got a 6'7.25 wingspan and a 8'2.5 standing reach. That's about average, if not slightly above average, for NBA PG's.

I'll say it again, you sound like someone who only looks at stats and hasn't watched him play. I've watched a lot of Cavs games.

His biggest issue with one on one matchups regarding size is his strength/weight, not so much length. You'll see what I'm talking about when you see him suit up for the Jazz. And unless he turns a corner, you'll see him play poor team defense too, but not for a lack of effort.

Not sure if he had bad coaching or just has low bbiq.

Agreed. Cleveland and Minnesota both went all in to try and capitalize the window they have with their current group and depleted their asset bases in the process. Neither of those teams will ever be able to attract marquee free agents and they won't have very much financial or roster flexibility going forward after adding Donovan and Rudy. Not to mention neither can improve through the draft because they traded away the majority of their picks. They basically have to hope that they contend with their current group like we just attempted to do with Bojan/Conley around Rudy/Donovan.

New York has obviously been a dumpster fire for a while but if they landed Donovan it may have awoken a sleeping giant. They're one of the few franchises in the NBA along with the Lakers, Nets, Celtics, etc. that doesn't need draft picks to build a contender because their market will always be attractive to free agents. Especially considering that Donovan likely would've committed to the Knicks long term which would've made them a much more attractive destination for free agents.

I'm assuming that Danny's decision making process was based on the fact that Donovan is almost guaranteed to leave Cleveland in 2025 which could mean that the 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029 picks are all near the top of the lottery.
 
Part of the appeal of those picks far in the future is that you can have that asset for a while and thus you have some added ... optionality™ and ability to use those picks in variety of ways. Lets say we indeed have great 23 and 24 drafts and we get what seems to be 2 stars with those. Then in the summer of 25 we will have UTA 25->32, MIN 25, 27 and 29, CLE 25, 27, 29, pick swaps... all those can be used to add another star... or hell even two stars to our supposed 2 stars already on the roster. In essence we can do what Cleveland did... except, we will actually have the assets to add 2 Donovan Mitchell level players. And still be left with most of our own picks.

Or... those picks can be used to maneuver around the draft and get a player or two our FO really likes(we all remember the reports that Ainge offered 4 picks for Justise Winslow in that draft - ignore the actual player here because he bust, but we will have the option to do it if we really like someone)....

Or... we can just wait on those picks and use them to reinforce the team in those years. Imagine having a 2 out of 3 good drafts in 2023, 2024 and 2025 and you look like a team on the rise or even competitor in those 25-29 years... Well, you will be able to add real cheap young talent to round up your roster...

Or... you can combine all of those depending on what the situation requires.

There are just so many different things we can do with those picks.
