Who are possible "long-term" PGs we could acquire?

We all know this upcoming draft is void of any elite PGs that are on pace to become franchise PGs (although you never know), but we also know that another year and half of Harris won't work and Watson can't give you 35 minutes a night like we all wish he could. So realistically who are PGs out there that we could actually acquire to be our long-term solution at the PG position?

I don't see many options, but there are a few. Calderon (who I wouldn't mind acquiring) is not a long-term solution. Another stop-gap guy I wouldn't mind getting, but KOC better have something in mind a year or two down the road if we get, is Andre Miller.

The only options that I could possibly see happening are Curry and Rondo. To get Curry we'd probably have to give up one of our young bigs, and to get Rondo, maybe we could get away with one of our young wings.

Both are real long-shots and we'd probably have to give up more than most are comfortable with (youth + pick(s)), but if we only had to sacrifice one of our youngins I'd probably pull the trigger for either guy.

How pathetic.

https://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Assists.jsp

Our pgs are 32 and 33 in the league in assist. Not only is every starter averaging more assists then Harris but also a backup or two.

An interesting stat is Watson is 12th in the league in assists per 48mins. Give him more mins!

Ideally we would trade harris for a young pg that we can develop.

Of proven guys Caldron seems like the obvious choice and could probably be gotten.

Quick list of possible pgs.

D.J. Augustin
Jarret Jack
Andre Miller
Darrin Collison
Brandon Jennings
Jrue Holliday
Luke Ridnour
Jordan Farmar
Mo Williams
Tony Douglas
Iman Shrumpert
CJ Watson
Rodrigue Beaubois
JJ Berea
Goran Dragic
Rajon Rondo

There are a lot of different directions to go in a Harris Trade.

Give Devin away for nothing, then use the trade exception to Bring Eric Maynor back for next year.

Trade Devin away for nothing and use the trade exception on a guy like Mo Williams or someone similar that their team doesnt really need.

Trade Devin for a (when Devin is playing worth a damn) of pretty equal value like Caldron, or Jack, Holiday possibly.

Trade Devin plus one of our young guys for a big upgrade at pg like Rondo, or Lowery.

I was thinking the exact same trade. But I can't imagine what The Hawks would do with Harris.

Right now, The Hawks have Teague and Pargo playing well at the point and their two guard slot is loaded with Johnson (who usually plays about 40mpg), Stackhouse and McGrady. Hinrich is clearly the odd man out and makes about the same as Harris (8mil).

The Hawks are right at (or maybe even above) the luxury tax threashold so I'm sure they'd love to unload Hinrich for cap relief. I'm sure if The Jazz offered to take him off Atl's hands by using their trade exception, they'd do it in a heartbeat. That means The Jazz would have to send Harris somewhere else.

The other problem is Hinrich is out with an injured shoulder and was projected to be back by now. Although they may be holding him back because they have nowhere to put him.

I think Collison, Jenings, Holliday, Ridnour, Farmar, CJ Watson, Dragic, Shrumpert and Rondo are likely going to be off the table. In the case of Jordan Farmar, no thanks.

You can't combine TPEs with players.

Would we even want a player that expensive, yet still on the block?

Use the TPE to get PG under $10 million, but that makes not less than Harris. The other team gets a TPE.

The other other team uses their TPE to pick up Harris.

Rondo
DJ Augustine
Andre Miller
Jarret Jack
George Hill
Tony Parker?
Kirk Hinrich
Mike Conley

See little chance of getting Conley, Parker, or Rondo. The others I think could be had especially if Kemba can run the point. Barea probably overpaid but MN may be willing to trade him if they keep Ridnour. Dragic will be unrestriced but probably not the "man" either.

Oh, I have a good idea.
Why don't we create a new thread with our answers.
Then we can talk about the PG situation in 55 different spots.
Excellent suggestion. Each time I see a new thread on this topic I'm going to rack up another assist to you. If you get enough assists I'm going to start a thread called "JazzSpazz should be our new point guard!"

I think Calderon is the most likely outcome, and I'd be okay with him. He would be a much better fit than Harris. However, if the Jazz somehow acquire Rondo, I'll throw a party, and everyone is invited!
