I meant the stats guys... they haven't found math that helps then accurately translate how good these guys are. No doubt scouts and other execs understand. I have just seen the math guys always underrating (in my opinion) international prospects.
Okay I didn't understand it that way. I'm a numbers guy in general. If i'm interested in what you're telling me I'll memorize that number most of the time. But at first I'm a basketball fan. And 99% the time if you're good at something in basketball, the stats will back your case.
I usually watch first and formulate an opinion and then I look at how that compares with the stats.
BTP, have you seen full games of Vezenkov? What do you think about his prospects? I have really hard time evaluating if he can translate his scoring/rebounding/efficiency at NBA level. He's one of the weirdest prospects to evaluate due to general and quite shocking lack of athleticism, while at the same time dominating competitions at every level he's been put in. I've seen only 3-4 full games of his... he's really crafty on drives, he gets his shot off incredibly quickly and has nice release, but you can simply see that there are physical limitations to what he can do on the next level... unless... he manages to overcome those with pure skill. I guess... I wonder at what point does his lack of explosiveness, quickness, jumping ability become insurmountable obstacle to success? Right now he's having one of the most impressive season in any of the major European leagues by a teenager in history. I read somewhere that he's the first player under 20 since Peja Stojakovic to average over 16 pts in the Greek league.
I wonder if we can draft him in the second and leave him in Barcelona(according to European media there are negotiations between him and Barcelona for a contract starting next year) for a couple of years and evaluate later if he's a Mirotic type of player that can help us at some point.
Actually I haven't seen anything from Vezenkov other than some(not many) highlight clips. I almost never watch Euro domestic games outside the ACB. German league and EuroLeague almost exclusively.
But I'll say this. The Greek economy compares favorably against the strength of the Greek basketball league. There's two good teams. Rest is utter garbage.
I will maybe comment on him when we're getting closer to the draft. Right now the NBA has too many good narratives to watch draft express highlight clips in the evening sun

But I'll trust your judgement. If you think he is insanely skilled, he'll find his way in the NBA. Luis Scola has literally no hops and he can fool almost every veteran with his fakes. Same with (no) A(C)L Jefferson.
Skill > Hops, unless your hops are paired with enough skills to matter.
If you're a big who can't defend, you can always be paired with a rim protector and execute your team's scheme. Carlos Boozer was sabotaging Thibs defensive concept for multiple years and they still finished first in defensive rating each year.
Another fun reading experience is when you google for Popovich's comments on the international talent, where he's like they're more skilled, they're more ready, they understand team concepts.
And then these Texas newspaper have comment sections where rednecks wish ebola on him. Quite entertaining.
