Following potential 2015 draftees

Since when they play the game barefoot??
Agree with most of these, btw. WCS may be a half inch taller.

I said a couple months back that I think WCS may come in over 7' and I thought towns would measure under 6'11. Anxious to see.

He is off at least an inch on nearly all of those.

Winslow might be 6'5, but everyone else is at least an inch taller.

I meant the stats guys... they haven't found math that helps then accurately translate how good these guys are. No doubt scouts and other execs understand. I have just seen the math guys always underrating (in my opinion) international prospects.

Okay I didn't understand it that way. I'm a numbers guy in general. If i'm interested in what you're telling me I'll memorize that number most of the time. But at first I'm a basketball fan. And 99% the time if you're good at something in basketball, the stats will back your case.
I usually watch first and formulate an opinion and then I look at how that compares with the stats.

BTP, have you seen full games of Vezenkov? What do you think about his prospects? I have really hard time evaluating if he can translate his scoring/rebounding/efficiency at NBA level. He's one of the weirdest prospects to evaluate due to general and quite shocking lack of athleticism, while at the same time dominating competitions at every level he's been put in. I've seen only 3-4 full games of his... he's really crafty on drives, he gets his shot off incredibly quickly and has nice release, but you can simply see that there are physical limitations to what he can do on the next level... unless... he manages to overcome those with pure skill. I guess... I wonder at what point does his lack of explosiveness, quickness, jumping ability become insurmountable obstacle to success? Right now he's having one of the most impressive season in any of the major European leagues by a teenager in history. I read somewhere that he's the first player under 20 since Peja Stojakovic to average over 16 pts in the Greek league.

I wonder if we can draft him in the second and leave him in Barcelona(according to European media there are negotiations between him and Barcelona for a contract starting next year) for a couple of years and evaluate later if he's a Mirotic type of player that can help us at some point.

Actually I haven't seen anything from Vezenkov other than some(not many) highlight clips. I almost never watch Euro domestic games outside the ACB. German league and EuroLeague almost exclusively.
But I'll say this. The Greek economy compares favorably against the strength of the Greek basketball league. There's two good teams. Rest is utter garbage.

I will maybe comment on him when we're getting closer to the draft. Right now the NBA has too many good narratives to watch draft express highlight clips in the evening sun :D
But I'll trust your judgement. If you think he is insanely skilled, he'll find his way in the NBA. Luis Scola has literally no hops and he can fool almost every veteran with his fakes. Same with (no) A(C)L Jefferson.
Skill > Hops, unless your hops are paired with enough skills to matter.
If you're a big who can't defend, you can always be paired with a rim protector and execute your team's scheme. Carlos Boozer was sabotaging Thibs defensive concept for multiple years and they still finished first in defensive rating each year.

Another fun reading experience is when you google for Popovich's comments on the international talent, where he's like they're more skilled, they're more ready, they understand team concepts.
And then these Texas newspaper have comment sections where rednecks wish ebola on him. Quite entertaining.

because some dudes show up with a clown shoe in the combine and play with normal shoe. barefoot measurement is the only measurement i care about. shaq is listed at 7ft 1 and i'm sure he played at 7ft 3 with his size 22 shoe on.

wcs does appear to be almost full 7ft in some pictures i've seen. but i think at the end of the day he is embiid height.

i'll be pleasantly surprised if both okafor and towns are full 6ft 10. can wait till the combine.

i know this not a good pic - but

towns has long enough arms and big enough body, so i really wouldn't worry about his barefoot height. i hope he comes in tall. i love this kid's game and i'm very curious how his game will translate in the nba.

Winslow not actually very tall.. can he guard SFs in the NBA? Just throwing it out there.

i would love him to be measured at 6ft 6. love this kid. he is like super sized lance stephenson with little bit of kawhi leonard in him. but i can't have him at 6ft 6 when i have okafor at 6ft 9 and change. so either both are really full 6ft 6 and 6ft 10 or 6ft 5 & 6ft 9.

projected barefoot height

Karl Anthony Towns - 6ft 9
Jahlil Okafor - 6ft 9 1/4
Frank Kaminsky - 6ft 10
Willie Cauley-Stein - 6ft 11
Justice Winslow - 6ft 5
Sam Dekker - 6ft 6 1/4

Kentucky already had a pro day where they measured everyone. Why would they measure shorter than that? Towns was 6'10.25" without shoes...WCS one inch taller.

If Detroit, Sacramento etc go for that with the OKC pick, I'd do that in a heartbeat. But that GS pick is one Steph Curry injury away from being in the lottery. Bogut and Iggy will be 33 in 2017 and who knows how the league is going to look with the new Salary Cap rise coming up.

You run the risk of the wing position becoming a logjam with Winslow or Hezonja. But you can always create a package in a year or two with a wing, Burke + draft pick for an unhappy all-star.
Yeah, because the Jazz have such a strong track record of getting trade value off logjams at certain positions, right?

Unless he thinks Dekker is wearing 3 inch soles.

Nah, he just didn't do his research

Dekker, listed at 6-foot-7 last season, measured in at 6-foot-9 at the Kevin Durant Skills Academy in June – and that was confirmed once he returned to Wisconsin.

“The two inches feel good,” Dekker said. “I'm comfortable at this height too.”

From Cy's forgiven nemesis in BB Insider article:

“I think the capacity that the players have to develop and learn, the speed with which they can pick things up,” Snyder told Basketball Insiders in a sit-down interview. “People perceive talent as athleticism and size and strength, [but] a lot of the ‘talent’ that these guys have is their ability to learn quickly. Show them something, they can do it immediately.”

Who do you think these guys are in the draft?

Hood, Gobert and Exum seem to all fit that description. Kanter not so much.

In this draft? Hezonja seems like he's a quick learner. Porzingis also seems quite heady.

Winslow for sure. Towns? Maybe Kaminsky, although he's athletically limited now.

Yeah Kaminsky seems like he'll pick up our offense just like that. (snap fingers)

It's not just offense. If we tell him to drop down as a weakside defender, or hedge on screens, or numerous other intricacies, is he going to be able to: 1) quickly comprehend and do that, and 2) be athletically capable of those things. Quick, able learners. Not a guy who takes a year to understand a concept. Adaptability. Ya feel me?

Yeah he's gonna be slow defensively. May be not Kanter slow, but slow nonetheless. Question is can we live with that if he can bring it offensively.

Like Kanter would have made a great third big providing the scoring punch. Problem is he wants to start.

Pretty far off on Dekkar. No problem with the rest.

maybe you are right. i think i'm off by an inch. if he really is parson's height then damn, he really might be chandler parsons in the nba. maybe i'll change it to 6ft 7 1/2. if so then i might have to bump kaminsky to 6ft 11. but not sure if i'll do that. i need more convincing pictures.

i usually don't believe 'i grew 2 inches' stuff. i don't believe paul george is 6ft 9. not even close actually. don't believe lebron or KD growing anything more than 1/4 inches.

i'll just have to wait till nba combine. there are enough people who believe KD is 6ft 11. only thing i'll ever believe is the actual measurement at the nba predraft.
