Who has a higher ceiling: Myles Turner or Stanley Johnson?
Probly depends on what kinda house they live in, tbh.

Age and cost. He's a guy that would improve team chemistry, AND he has proven that he's a strong starter on a playoff team.
If I thought that the Jazz could get him back, I'd gladly see them spend to do it. They never should have let him leave in the first place. Had he been extended back before the tank, I think that they'd be pulling out all the stops to retain him. They should at least inquire to see if he'd be interested in coming back. It kicks both Burks and Hood to the bench, but so be it.
I'm not sure that the Jazz have the cap space to pull it off without giving up Trevor Booker, and Junkyard Dog is going to have a LOT of suitors clamoring for his next contract. He's still not yet 30, so I could see him being a solid starter for the next 3-4 years easily.
Gobert, Favors, Carroll, Hayward and Exum would be an incredibly long and aggressive starting 5. Imagine how solid they'd be on defense, without losing anything offensively. I love how Hood played down the stretch, but Carroll is the better overall offensive player. Round out the bench with Booker, Hood, Burks, Jingles, Burke, the 2015 pick(s), Lil'Sap and Cotton. . . I'd like that team a lot.
This year's Carroll is a better offensive player than this year's Hood, but Hood could easily overtake him in the next couple of years when it will matter more. I think Carroll is better on Defense than Hood will ever be, however. It is hard to argue with the probable production with Hood at his price though. . .
I see the jazz taking the best stretch 4 they can get.
In the draft, or free agency?I see the jazz taking the best stretch 4 they can get.
In the draft, or free agency?
Outside of Porzingis (who I like a lot) and Kaminsky (who I like as a stretch 5), I'm not really enamored with any of them from the draft. Maybe Portis, but I see him as a clear step down in tiers from the guys the Jazz should be targeting.
I'd much rather see them go after a guy like that in free agency or at the trade deadline.
I guess I don't know enough of the cap picture off-hand, but it seems like with the cap exploding in a couple of years and with the raises that Hood and Exum MIGHT get in three years, the Jazz have one chance to add a significant free agent and it's now. But again, I'm shooting from the hip.
If Utah takes off next year and makes an impact in the playoffs, we still might be able to lure a decent FA who wants to join a winner. Otherwise, everybody is going to have money after this offseason, so that's usually not good for us. Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of options for us this offseason, and we won't really have that much cap space anyway without renouncing guys like Booker. I'm kind of hoping to make a trade in which we take back more than we send out, but it's also possible our best option could end up being us collecting an asset by selling our cap space. Whatever we do, I believe it's wise to assume our FA options will be limited for a few years after this offseason.
He said they don't want to build a board that early, before they've started the final discussions with each other and before they get all the information for the prospects(i.e. all the tape, all the interviews, individual work outs, etc.), because they don't want to fall victims to certain cognitive biases (like confirmation bias, recency bias(said they are watching video not in chronological order to avoid that one too), etc.) in constructing their big board. That's actually a really smart move and should be taken as a huge positive, rather than as a sign of neglect or lack of seriousness in the draft process.
I see the jazz taking the best stretch 4 they can get.
Like Raja Bell when we had a really good team with D-Will?
If you have a draft board too early it anchors you to those rankings.
FIXED1. Who knows if they haven't actually.
2. This is their jobs and lives. They take this A LOT more seriously than ANY of us ever COULD. They're probably pouring over a quantity and quality of information that BOGGLES the mind.
U do realize we'd also have an advantage on offenseLet's not get too specific with this example. I like Kaminsky at #12, but I'm afraid teams would simply go 'small ball' when Gobert/Kaminsky pairing is on the floor.
no. It's called in game adjustments. All u do is take Booker out put in Frank and force their C to come out of his comfort zone to guard the perimeter opening up the inside for Hayward and Burks to drive. If the c sucks in to guard the driver then kick it out to frank for the open 3. Jazz did this a lot with Memo, who killed teams like this. There is just so much we can do with a guy like FrankSo all another team has to do to get Kaminsky off the floor is go 'small ball' then?
I feel just the opposite. If Booker isn't there then look at Frank.
I'm down with Booker, but in my opinion there is a lot more risk taking Booker. Where does he get playing time? I don't really see him as an upgrade over our top three wings and don't forget QS also really likes Ingles who is great in the locker room and as a backup playmaker on the floor. What if Booker never develops?I couldn't complain about either, but yeah, I'd probably lean Booker, too.
Bottom line, we should get a solid contributor at #12.
I was thinking about this earlier, but if we do go pg.. I was thinking it would be best to trade down around 18-20 and take either Grant or Wright. Think they both go with the new model of defense plus we get maybe a future first, and I think they are as good maybe better then Payne. I know Wright can't shoot, but he is a bigger more athletic Rondo possibly making him a better defender who is a good passer. Think either would be a good backup and create great competition with ExumNew favorite candidate, Cameron Payne, though I don't see the Jazz picking a PG in the lottery for a third year in a row. Think we would ship Burke out?
it's not like we are going to contend for a title. This does however gets said rookie pg great experience if and when the jazz do become contenders.Cant really fault that logic.. I mean if we are serious about making the playoffs next year we cant have a rookie PG as your back up. Unless he's a lottery pick of course
