I don't know, if I'm in media, and a guy in a sports organization, even if he contributes zero to the decision making arm, tells me he/she hears that they could be open to trading x player to facilitate free agent player signing with the team, even if it DOESN'T make sense, I'm reporting it.
Trying to substantiate said rumor is pretty dumb. So many things would never, ever be reported if that were the case, especially in the context of sports.
Do you not watch The Newsroom? Reporting on a rumor is not an innocuous and inconsequential action. I respect that Mr. Genessy believes the source to be reliable, but he should still try to get confirmation from a second source before reporting it. Favors is a real person with a real career and real emotions. Being subjected to unsubstantiated trade rumors time and time again when he's shown nothing but utmost loyalty to the club must be frustrating.
