What's new

Jazz Select Olivier Hanlan

What do you know about Exum's work ethic? Or Hanlan's? Or Hanlan's ability to translate?

Hanlan is already more polished and experienced than Exum was at the end of the season. He'll be able to do a lot of the things--drives, floaters, dribble pull-ups--that Exum is still learning.

I don't doubt Hanlan's ability to play at the NBA level. He's pretty mature at 22 years old and has a pretty complete game.

All Exum had to do last year was play defense, and surpassing Burke in the rotation was a given.

Burke has actually played in the NBA and had a stronger resume than Hanlan's coming into the league (as evidenced by his winning CPOY and draft stock), so why would you assume that Hanlan will push Exum when Exum unseated Burke? Just because the item is new doesn't automatically make it better. And seriously what is this **** about Exum's work ethic?

Hanlan > Burke, imo --- Burke has been pushing historic lows in terms of offensive efficiency and has defensive limitations.

Regardless of Exum's work ethic, which I'm sure is really good, he's going to be pushed every day in practice going head to head against Hanlan. They're going to be running the same actions. It can only help his development.

I expect Hanlan to have a very good summer league - my big question is once the season begins will he get assists and play good defense?

You do understand that Hanlan hasn't played one second of NBA basketball and the vast majority of 2nd rounders don't make it, right?

Fully aware, thanks. I still think he's going to be better than Burke by the beginning of the season. If you have a differing point of view, feel free to expound on it.

1. He doesn't feel like your average second rounder.
2. Our PG situation is so up in the air right now with a 19 year old rook who has a long, long way in his development to go as our starter and a small ineffective shooting guard as his backup.

If Hanlan just crushes it in the summer league I can see people's opinion's change fast.

I hope Hanlan is awesome, and I can see the seeds. I just think it's foolish to ever assume a 2nd rounder is ever going to be.

Well, he can't have much worse of a summer league than Burke has had. And anything he gives us in the regular season will be an improvement over Trey Bricke.

Playing defense well is the most difficult thing to do in the league, and our 19 year old rookie did it. To question his work ethic seems rather...rash. Plus Tony Jones said he's been busting his *** this summer.

lololol he's 4 ft 8 for crying out loud !!

Well, the poster is "GoFriars" so definitely a fanatical. I think the Jazz really like Cotton. I don't see him as more than a 3rd PG, though. But you never know. He plays uptempo and can get the team into their offense. A starter? Definitely not. Backup? I think that's his ceiling. 3rd PG? Definitely!

Oh i like him, would much rather see him than Trey !

I'm intrigued by this guy... wonder if he is d league bound or if they will use him at the 2 some. We have so many point guard projects.

Matthew Delavedova just started in the NBA Finals. Albeit, was a back up originally. I am obviously biased as I went to school w/ Bryce but laugh all you want - he is the best PG on your team right now BY A LONG SHOT. Cotton is twice the player of Delavedova. Its a shame that most of you instantly discrediting him is because of his height. Its June so its all talk but i beg you to remember this post when Cotton is starting for the Jazz (or another NBA team.)

I like Cotton, but if he starts for the Jazz at any point next season, something has gone horribly wrong...
