I read a study once that showed people retain information better by reading paper formats vs digital. Not sure how conclusive it was, but I think there could be more to the discussion than simply nostalgia and how much space books take up.

Personally, I prefer paper texts. There's something about how a physical book involves all your senses that is really satisfying, whether it be the feel of a page, the sound it makes when you turn it, or even the smell.

This was worth a watch. Even a wait in a crowd, and sitting in a crowded theater.

So far, the only real criticism is

"There's no way Han's never used Chewie's crossbow before.."

And that's no where near a main, or even major part of the story.

I will save you the words, and just say go see it sooner than later, but you'll want both.
 
I loved it but man everything looks better in perspective than the disasters the last 3 were.
 
I thought it was ok. I just kind of find star wars to be a bit cheesy in general.

Sort of how I feel. Especially with the last three and with how the trailer looks for the new one, though it looks like the strongest of these last four.

I think the series' biggest issue is not simply about coming close to expectations given how strong the first three films were. The issue is whether they can create new characters who come remotely close to the iconic roles of Darth Vadar, Han Solo, Obi Wan, and to a lesser degree imo, Luke Skywalker. The plots were solid but Lucas created a series that a handful or so of iconic characters and moments. That is the toughest part imo. You could have a great sript and great director but will these new characters jump upon the screen and forever be etched in our memory. I highly, highly doubt it.
 
And fwiw, Darth Vadar may be thee most important character there. Movies of good vs. bad are driven by their villian. The Dark Knight, The Silence of the Lambs, No Country for Old Men. Hell, two of those three won the Best Picture Oscar so yes, they were well-made and well-written and well-directed but without the respectively amazingly played villian in each, they would've been far less impressive imo.

At least for me, this demand was met. The new characters, including the villain, are compelling, likable, or both. They might not be as Iconic yet, but they're well on their way pending episodes VIII and IX.
 
Just saw it. It was great. The new darth Vader isn't as cool as the old one. It's pretty great though. There is a lot of story left to be developed through the next two in the new trilogy.
 
I found the plot and character building to be a bit rushed. I wish they took an extra 5m/scene and really polished it.
Who am I kidding. It's freaking Star Wars, and it's freakin great!!
 
I was really liking the movie until about halfway through the movie I was like "wait a minute, I've seen this movie before" as soon as we see that one planet. If you didn't like Avatar because it was a retelling of Pocohotas/dances with wolves/the last samurai you might not like this one. It didn't rip off those movies but a different one. I have mixed feelings about this movie.

Most movies rip off some other movie, it's kind of hard to have a 100% original story arc.

I felt like I had seen the movie before but because it was the same as a new hope.

Exactly. Wasn't sure if that was a spoiler or not but literally they remind the New Hope down to using the same planet of Tantooine as well as having a giant planetlike entity that destroy's worlds that has a small weakspot that must be destroyed. The villian combo was almost identical to Sidious/Vader. There is having similar movies but then there is having near identical movies. Watching this movie made me think "at least the prequels tried to do something different and not just make the same exact movie" and I hate the prequels.
J J Abrams did the same thing he did with Star Trek into darkness in which he made a remake of Wrath of Khan.
