What's new

New star wars

Exactly. Wasn't sure if that was a spoiler or not but literally they remind the New Hope down to using the same planet of Tantooine as well as having a giant planetlike entity that destroy's worlds that has a small weakspot that must be destroyed. The villian combo was almost identical to Sidious/Vader. There is having similar movies but then there is having near identical movies. Watching this movie made me think "at least the prequels tried to do something different and not just make the same exact movie" and I hate the prequels.
J J Abrams did the same thing he did with Star Trek into darkness in which he made a remake of Wrath of Khan.

Can't really blame him for playing it safe with the first one. Maybe they will go with more creativity in the next one.

Lol. I literally started falling asleep and my wife woke me up

Same, my work rented out a theatre at the valley fair mega plex and everything was free so I'm not complaining and glad I saw it but it was blah to me, well made but blah

I still liked it. But yeah, it's the same story/different characters. I'm excited for the future ones because at least this new one has quality acting and a continued plot line. I'm also a little more excited for the spinoff that will happen every other year.

Took a massive dump about an hour and 40 minutes in and then couldn't find my ticket so I am gonna have to see it again, this time in it's entirety.

I saw The Force Awakens last night and I was completely blown away. While I had high hopes, I never imagined it would not only meet, but exceed my expectations. As to your thought on some issues with the plot, I had read before hand that Abrams was taking a "less is more" stance in regards to the script because he didn't want to belabor every aspect of the story. He really wanted to keep it basic and trust the viewer to get where they needed to go.

I loved this movie more than I thought possible. It took me right back to the feelings of being a kid again, sitting in a theatre watching Jedi. For me, everything was done as close to perfection as possible and Abrams did a masterful job of making this a true Star Wars movie. It's a 10 outta 10 for me, and I'm down right giddy that we finally have another Episode that carries on the legacy of the first 3.
This is me I was blown away. I loved this movie and was on the edge of my seat the entire way. I don't care about plot holes as long as I'm entertained and this movie was great. I actually went to this movie expecting to be disappointed, that did not come close to happening. My wife who hated most of the other star wars movies liked this one.

I loved Mad Max, I'll give Star Wars a second chance when it comes out on DVD probably better the second time around

At least for me, this demand was met. The new characters, including the villain, are compelling, likable, or both. They might not be as Iconic yet, but they're well on their way pending episodes VIII and IX.

I thought the villain was a whining boob. I was good until all the "woe is me, can I ever be bad enough" crap started up.

I was really liking the movie until about halfway through the movie I was like "wait a minute, I've seen this movie before" as soon as we see that one planet. If you didn't like Avatar because it was a retelling of Pocohotas/dances with wolves/the last samurai you might not like this one. It didn't rip off those movies but a different one. I have mixed feelings about this movie.

Yup, I know exactly what you mean.

Yep, by a good margin.
I'm actually really surprised by this. Winter movies NEVER make as much as summer movies opening weekend. Not even close. Before Star Wars, the highest U.S. opening weekend gross in December was the first Hobbit movie with $84 million (so Star Wars just tripled that previous record). And they managed to break the record for global opening weekend gross despite the fact that the movie hasn't come out in China yet. Jurassic World (the previous record holder) made $90 million in China opening weekend. Crazy stuff.

Yep. SW was in about 140 less theaters than Jurassic World too and only 84 more than The Hobbit.
