Ya, it's mostly the gift giving and gift receiving that I don't like.Yeah, for me the obligatory gift giving thing, where people you see once a year or less buy you something because they feel like they have to buy you something and it's not something you want, not something you would have ever bought for yourself, something you may not even take out of the package, just sucks. I really hate it. I hate getting those gifts and I refuse to buy them.
And Christmas music blows, hard.
And fighting through crowds every time you need to buy something blows, hard.

My wife and kids get a full Christmas. 1 gift for the in laws and that's it.
I don't do co workers, acquaintances, neighbors, extended family...
1 gift per each in-law? Yeah, completely nuts, imho.
How do you pick the gift? The stuff I get from in-laws often seems like it was picked out of a bin of $x priced items because they have a dollar amount they will spend per non-close in-law and this item was convenient and met their $ requirement.
I hate it worse when my wife does it for gifts she buys me. Last year she bought me a book on how to brew beer?!?! I already own the best books on how to brew beer and I read them over five years ago. I spend dozens of hours a month reading and posting at www.homebrewtalk.com and I have almost six years of brewing experience. What the hell do I need that book for? But I like brewing and she saw a brewing related thing at her work and she bought it for me. I wish she would have spent that money on herself.
I think she just figured it was a nice book. It's hardcover and has a lot of glossy photos. She didn't know what to get me and the it was. I just really wish people didn't buy me gifts. I'm picky about the stuff I buy for myself, I don't want random crap. That's kinda sweet, weird and inexcusable all at the same time? Like I don't know, do you guys talk much at home or don't you guys communicate much at all? Cos like I wouldn't have bought you that book and I hardly know ya except for the fact that you're a master brewer... LOL

I would highly prefer they not get me a gift.Maybe just be thankful for the gifts y'all are getting instead of being grumpy ********? Oh no, somebody who loves me got me a gift I don't like, whatever will I do?!
I would highly prefer they not get me a gift.
I have opted out of gift exchange and that is the best thing anyone has ever gotten me for Christmas.
Just to be clear, I'm expressing my frustrations here, but I was raised with enough manners not to be a jerk to someone who buys me a gift. You just don't have someone that can get you just the right thing... but that is rare to find. The odds of somebody getting me something I really want is pretty slim, but I make an effort to be grateful for any attempt at thoughtfulness is put into the gift selection. That is what is important to me, how well they know me and the effort/thought.
I am with you though on the random crap people that don't really know me give me. I'd rather not get it for the time I waste either returning it, trashing it, or storing it when I know they don't know me at all and didn't put any thought into it.
