Go GET Teague

Nah. The only player in this draft I'm absolutely confident will be better than Hayward is Simmons, and he'll undoubtedly go #1, which the Nets' pick will only give us a slim chance of landing.

They'd have to give us more than just the pick. I'm sure Hayward could land us a better deal than one draft pick, even if it is top 5.

What if they threw in Jae crowder and we threw in our pick (lottery protected)?

For the record my main desire to sign Teague isn't even for the wins-- it's mainly to persuade Hayward to hang around.

We really, really can't afford to lose him like we were losing DWill.
I don't think the issue this time is whether he'll hang around. I think it's more "How much do we want to offer him?".

DWill would have been worth the MAX but I don't know if Hayward is worth the "new MAX" deal when the cap goes up.

A. I don't think the Jazz get value back vs. just re-signing him.

B. I don't think Hayward is done developing. Brad Stevens turns him into a star if we let him and then the Jazz can look back at messing it up like they have with other star players recently.

um, who?

I highly doubt the guy who drive a Honda Accord for years as a rookie will pass up on all the extra money we can offer... I first got nervous because of the sign and trade rules but the new rules will cost Gordon a lot of cash. It's not like we have a terrible basketball situation here.

He's absolutely worth it... Great player makes others better and improves every year... He's not KD or Lebron but he's top 30 for sure.

Well I guess this raises another issue.

Sure you can pay Hayward the max. That is what it will cost, because there is some team out there that will. There's also teams out there willing to give the max to Favors, Gobert, and possibly Hood. We have a team of probably 4 players who are worth the max based on market value, but none of them fill the roll of 'Yea, he's a max player, but he's so much more than the average max player.' Think LeBron, Leonard, Davis, etc. We rely on all of our 'max' players. And it's impossible to have a team built like that. You can't pay all four. What do you do?

You pay Hayward and Gobert the Max for sure. That's all I know.

Cross that bridge when you get there and move the odd man out.

How about Favors?

Hopefully we can retain him for something under the max. Hayward is worth the max for sure, and Gobert's max is cheaper. I am not sure about how salaries work out, but I do hope we can retain all three somehow.

Good call.
Also I would worry that having Hayward gets them some wins

I would need a guarantee that the nets wouldn't play him and would tank like no other

Hayward is getting the new max. What the jazz need to decide is if they are the ones that pay him his money.

What fans need to decide is if we want Hayward. How much money he is getting has already been decided.

I'm not in favor of trading him, but it's Boston that owns the Nets pick from the Garnett trade awhile back. They're not tanking intentionally, they're just that bad. If they trade Hayward to the Celtics, the pick from the Nets doesn't change because he's not playing for them. Still wouldn't do it.
