Official Announcement! Gameface Poker Resurrection -- Saturday Apr. 23rd @7pm

Pretty jelly here. I was feeling like **** yesterday and didn't want to spread the virus. I bet it was a great time.

I had a blast like always. Finished in 5th place despite the fact that i dont really care about the poker, im just there to party. Bigb's buddy got under my skin a bit cause he is world class **** talker and some of the **** talking was directed at my red stag! So a couple of times during the night my drunk *** thought about fighting him but actually most of the night i liked him. He was a funny, outgoing, and talkative guy and talked a lot of **** but i think thats just how he is and doesn't mean anything by it and it just got under my skin cause he was a guy that i didn't know at all and was talking ****... if he were my friend and i knew he didn't mean anything by it then im sure i wouldn't have minded. Plus he looked like the type of dude who has been in a lot of fights and probably would have kicked my *** anyway. I think that really big guy (6 foot 6 ish and about 250 lbs) named curtis from dannon was bothered by his **** talking too but it was all good. Nothing got out of hand.
Shows the type of great person that bigb is too. Bigb is a byu fan mormon non drinker and his buddy is a ute fan hard core drinkin (he brought a bottle of wild turkey 101 for gods sake) trash talkin mouth of a sailer dude, yet bigb is his buddy. Not a lot of mormons with that open of a mind. Props to bigb. He also drove my drunk *** home even though i was trying to just walk home and I really appreciated the ride since it was raining too.
Lots of good food, really fun people, good beer and booze to drink, and even watched some playoff basketball with a bunch of sports lovin bros. I never want to miss one of these poker nights.

Big thanks to gameface for putting these tourney's on for us. Really tough job and not very rewarding at all for the host. At least everyone there is very respectful in regards to gameface's home and i dont think it got trashed or anything but still, cleaning up cant be much fun. Thanks gameface.
You could barely walk across the room. How could I let you walk home?

Fish and BigB's buddy hit the liquor fast and hard. franklin's friend, Joe, I don't know how much he had had to drink but he was pretty trashed. But, all-in-all no one got out of line. It was a little annoying that it was taking people forever to play their hands. I think we had a couple 15 min rounds that only saw three hands.

So from what I can remember, at my table seat 1 me, 2 Dave, 3 Sue (my wife's friend), 4 Curtis (6'9" guy), 5 broncster, 6 Siro, 7 devgchr, 8 my wife, 9 franklin's friend, Joe, 10 Andy (Dave's brother).

Table 2, I don't know the exact order, but it was BigB dealing, Bronco70, Lee (BigB's dad), Dylan (Dannon), Gustavo (my boss), Austin (Dannon), Adam (Dannon), BigB's friend, Fish, Babyperterzz.

Fish and BigB's friend were right next to each other and I think they were having an unspoken drinking contest (unless I missed it and they flat out challenged each other to each drink 750ml of liquor in about 30min). So most of the noise was from them.

I need to be more prepared to color-up as we go. It's really hard when I'm still in the game as I don't want my chips getting mixed up with the chips for color-up and all that.

I think I'm gonna have longer breaks next time. I spend pretty much the whole break working and I never get any of the good food.

I have to apologize because a lot of times someone is talking to me and I get interrupted and lose track of the conversation. My mind is all over the place when I'm hosting and I don't mean to ditch a conversation like that.

It was really awesome of Sue to shuffle when it got down to the last few people. She's done that several times. Really keeps the end of the game moving.

Also, this was more of a party atmosphere game. When we were doing the league it was still very friendly but it moved a lot faster and people were way more focused on playing. I think both are good. I do feel bad, though, for people who are more interested in playing serious poker and have to deal with a slow moving game.

I didn't really talk about this ahead of time but this was pretty good for me because my boss didn't really know me at all and had a pretty negative impression of me. We actually had a not good meeting (first time I had actually sat down and talked to him) a few weeks back and just after he was leaving he asked Curtis to let him know next time there was a poker game. I guess someone else at Dannon had hosted a poker game recently. Curtis was like "well yeah, "Gameface" is having a poker game on the 23rd, come to that." And long story short my boss wants us to run a poker league together. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed my poker setup. I'm modest and all, but my basement was purpose built to host poker games, and it serves its purpose well. I really enjoy the energy in the room during a tournament.

I sucked. I have no idea why I picked the moment I did to make a stupid bluff but I bluffed into a multi-way pot with a very drunk very big chip leader in the hand. He called my bluff. I really hated feeding him chips, especially on such a stupid bluff.

Is Sue hot?

I guess Curtis thought she looked pretty good for her age. But, no. Not to be a dick, but she's a little older. Way nice and way into playing poker. She's serious business though. I'm not sure what she does exactly but she works with child welfare services so she constantly has to deal with the most horrendous situations that involve children being abused, hurt, neglected and all that, so it definitely affects hew view of the world.

Oh, and for everyone who left the bathroom without washing your hands, she noticed and made a mental note of it and reported to my wife, lol.

I really wish you could have made it but definitely appreciate you not getting any of us sick. Hopefully it works out next time.

I'm really really glad you didn't fight him.

As far as my basement getting trashed... I'm not real big on housework so it is 100 times more work cleaning up before the game than after the game. I mean, I've got to gather up some glassware, run an extra load of dishes and take out an extra bag of garbage. No biggie.

Not sure I would like all the **** talking tbpfh from people I don't know at all. Especially if it's just too unrelenting and I'm drinking.

fish was overstating it?

There was one guy who was into trash talking (the guy fish mentioned). But it was pretty mundane, and people trash talked back and he took it in good spirits. I didn't think it was confrontational or anything. Keep in mind that fish was hammered. :p

Oh. Like I said.

Lightweight.

On the **** talking issue. Telling players how to play their cards, or encouraging players to call, or announcing that someone is bluffing or that they "have it" is in the gray area of the "one player to a hand" rule. I don't want to be a rules nazi and I don't want to be overly authoritarian in the way I run the game. Letting stuff like this go to an extent is intentional. However, there are times when it might cross the line. For instance, if someone is making a bluff and their opponent is about to fold but gets talked out of it by the table, that person would have a right to be upset. Same thing goes for almost getting a call when you have the nuts but then having the possible flush or whatever pointed out by people who are not in the hand.

If any one ever feels like that is getting out of hand please just mention it to me and I will let the table know to tone it down and not interfere with a hand they are not in.

I actually did that a couple of times. It is not cool. Sorry about that.

I think this was mostly my buddy Eric. That bugged me too. But I know him from work and that's just how he is. I think that's just his thought process. He talks through everything to himself.
And he talks ****, nonstop. But it's all a joke with him. I guarantee if he knew it was bugging people, he would have dialed it back.
All that being said, he got way more out of hand than I expected. 99% of the loudness and rowdiness came from him. I'd have to think twice about inviting him again.

If there is an incident that requires intervention by me as tournament director I like to go back and look at the rules afterwards to make sure the situation was dealt with correctly.

This is rule #2 in Robert's Rules of Poker under Dead Hands:

2. Cards thrown into the muck may be ruled dead. However, a hand that is clearly identifiable may be retrieved and ruled live at management’s discretion if doing so is in the best interest of the game. An extra effort should be made to rule a hand retrievable if it was folded as a result of incorrect information given to the player.

So for reference, the "muck" are all the previously folded cards and the burn cards.

The situation was one where there were three players in the hand. One was already all-in and on a later round of betting the other two got all-in. One guy, right after calling all-in threw his cards and they went face-down into the muck. He was trying to flip them over but he was pretty drunk and ended up throwing them into the muck instead. Siro and I were pretty sure which card was his (one fell short of the muck and was easy to identify) so I pulled that card and asked if he could tell me what his cards were. He had zero idea what his cards were. That made the situation very difficult as a player who has gone all-in should, in my opinion, not have their hand killed if it is at all avoidable. Pretty terrible way to lose a poker tournament. But he said he was going for the diamond flush. Well, as drunk as he was, he didn't realize that on the turn there was only one diamond on the board and he had zero chance of making a flush. There was a heart that I assume he thought was a diamond. The cards I picker up were a 2 and 7 of diamonds, and I was not happy to see that made two pair with a card to go. Had a two or seven falln it would have been a difficult decision, but since he couldn't identify his hand I wouldn't have awarded him that pot. The situation simply wasn't clear enough to do that.

Curtis, who ultimately won the hand made a comment to me about not being afraid to make a ruling. I'd like to be clear that I was not at all afraid of making a ruling. I feel strongly that an all-in hand should only be killed if there is no possible way to avoid it. This was such a case. But I did want to make an effort to save the hand before making that decision. It doesn't matter that the guy was very drunk and that this mistake was made as a result of that and that it was likely also why he couldn't remember his cards. He was entitled to as much protection and consideration as anyone else in the game.

I actually did that a couple of times. It is not cool. Sorry about that.

It happens a lot and it was happening more often than normal last night. It's not all that big a deal, really. If someone is unhappy about it they should say something and people will generally tone it down.

What did you think of playing in a live game? Very different than playing online, right? Not sure if that was actually the first live poker tournament you've played in.
