What's new

Following 2016 potential draftees

realizing how well he performed at the Combine, Bembry might go late teens. Dude is a complete swiss-army knife.

Hmm, wouldn't really say Bembry performed that well at the combine. Measured out kind of short, with good not great length. Solid across the athleticism tests. Kinda meh, don't think he bumped himself too much.

I don't agree. DL has a great eye for talent and there are 2nd round gems all the time.

Most of our 2nd rounders are late 2nd rounders. There just isn't much there in that range. You might occasionally find talent, but more than likely we're going to get the Olivier Hanlan's of the world.

What I meant is more that they're worthless as trade assets.

There's just something about Bembry that intrigues me. I can't see him not sticking in the NBA.

Who'd do this trade:

Suns trade: 28th pick (if Bembry is there), PJ Tucker, filler
Jazz trade: next year's GS pick, filler

I know 2017 is supposed to be the deepest thing ever but that GS pick is gonna be a 30th guaranteed. Making sure Hayward stays might be more important.

I like that.

Jaylen Brown seems like he might be stuck in tweener world. He shoots okay, but not well enough at this point to be considered a solid wing shooter. His FT percentage doesn't say shooter really either. He's strong, but not big enough to really play inside or overpower people at the next level. He has decent athleticism, but not so much that he'll be blowing by people and playing above the rim consistently. I'm trying to see him as a solid starter but think he may just be a rotation player.

Anyone have any insight?

He is a pretty strong driver and at 225 lbs that means alot of free throws. As with any wing, if he never gets that 3 point shot his ceiling is capped pretty low. Stanley Johnson and Justise Winslow both have similar physical profiles and struggled their first year. Is Brown a better NBA prospect? Not by his college numbers.

That's kind of true. It's close. It will be up to the last spot I think. The current system with the D-League affiliations is weird. They need to make some sort of rule whereby a team can send players down to the D-League while they are under contract but not count towards the 15 players roster number. Maybe they can limit it to players on rookie contracts so teams wouldn't abuse the system. This way teams would have higher stake in developing players and would have the opportunity to develop players without their roster suffering for it.

I personally think every NBA team is required to spend 5 million on their d-league team. 5 mil is nothing for an nba franchise but it would seriously increase the pay of d-leagures and get more to stay here instead of going overseas. Then add 2 more rounds to the draft. NBA teams would be required to carry a min of 25 players between their NBA team and their dleague team.

D-leagures can be used in trades to make salaries work or what not.

This vid of Luwawu shows more handle, more shiftiness and more shooting off the bounce than I thought he had. There might be some Jimmy Butler upside here. It's even more impressive that he can play in these strawberry-watermelon uniforms. I like that he's a bit fiery, like some of the other French guys.

Personally, I think the Jazz are going to pick between Luwawu, Korkmaz and Malachi Richardson at #12, unless they want to take a swing on Maker or Skal. I think Maker will primarily be a defensive player.

More Luwawu. I think he's a legit 3/D wing with plus toughness and athleticism.

A line-up of Exum/Luwawu/Hayward/Favors/Gobert gets me excited. The defense and rebounding should be over the top. The athleticism in transition is great, and the spacing/slashing should be enough to get by. Hood and Lyles give us quality depth.

To me he looks like he can't beat anybody off the dribble. And his handle seems rudimentary and shaky whenever he tries more advanced moves. The athleticism is nice, though.

he's athletic but not a high level athlete. he's one of the more riskier picks who's going to take many years to develop to play in the nba.

if you struggle finishing at the rim in the adriatic league.....let's just say he's a work in progress. is that who we really want at 12?

I like that Korkmaz and Richardson have a mid-range game. So if they get chased off the line from 3, they can step in and hit a shot or make a play.

Denzel Valentine might be the BPA at 12. I don't know how jazz fans feel about taking on another SG but there is a lot to like about his game.

I think we want more upside--more athleticism, more defense, more ability to create off the dribble. I think Valentine will be a solid 2nd-unit player, a forward who can initiate offense, move the ball and score on open looks. I don't see him being as effective against first-tier defenders in the NBA though.

If Korkmaz measures close to 6'8" in workouts that's going to be tough to pass on. Here are some more recent highlights.

That last dunk was nice.

Kork is still my pick at 12.

Isn't he just barely 18?

I'll be honest I know zero about this guy but not all that impressed with that highlight reel. I hate his release and the defenses he played against looked embarrassing. I think I saw a 1-3-1 zone?
