What's new

Police shoots black behavioural therapist who was laying on the ground with his hands up.

The officer claims that he wasn't being racist because he meant to shoot the autistic guy. Somehow I don't think this is going to get him a lot more sympathy.

Awww. Well then. That makes it so much better!

What's funny is how he still handcuffs the poor black guy after he shoots him. If he had really aimed for the autistic kid then why did he handcuff the black guy?

You just know police chiefs everywhere are using this to tell other cops to always shoot to kill.

How often does this sort of thing happen but without cameras?

Officer makes a huge mistake. And then his buddies run to cover up for him. The "bro code" is more important than actual justice.

I think mandatory body cameras and a non-partisan objective 3rd party should investigate ALL police shootings. That way we can finally have some transparency here.

I just wonder how many other times this has happened in just the last few years? All of the blacks killed by white cops lately have been very suspicious. Trayvon Martin, yet another very suspicious shooting. How many cops have gotten away with these crimes?

Some sort of a civilian body to oversee the police is badly needed. The kind that will mete out punishment for things like this without worrying about hurting someone's feelings or punishing a buddy.

Lol. Don't these officers take great pride in how great of a shot they are? How could you miss that badly?

Something smells fishy.

The whole approach to policing is problematic. From the day they join the force, they are shown videos and presentations of policemen and women being killed and beaten, and there is a mentality of "you're the good guy, and they're the bad guys. Make sure the good guys survive" that is emphasized in training, instead of an emphasis on de-escalation and civil service.
Is this really true? What's your source?

I heard this many times, I thought it was common knowledge. Last time was on NPR, where a former chief of police discusses it at length. A quick Google search yields many articles on the subject.

Officers aren’t just told about the risks they face. They are shown painfully vivid, heart-wrenching dash-cam footage of officers being beaten, disarmed, or gunned down after a moment of inattention or hesitation. They are told that the primary culprit isn’t the felon on the video, it is the officer’s lack of vigilance. And as they listen to the fallen officer’s last, desperate radio calls for help, every cop in the room is thinking exactly the same thing: “I won’t ever let that happen to me.” That’s the point of the training.

His ***. Pulled it straight from it. They are called Demofacts

Are you for real? I'm serious. Are you a character like Boris? Or are you really that stupid? It's okay if you are. You don't choose your brain capacity, and you hardly seem to have any. But I want to know whether to feel pity or contempt for you.

Also relevant is the likelihood that white cops view blacks as "prone to violence". This fact was demonstrated in the arrest filmed here. Clearly, the cop was more then a little physical in arresting this black female. Given the circumstances, it might be fair to wonder if it really needed to end in an arrest at all. But the cop then admits that whites(including, presumably, white cops) view blacks as having "violent tendencies". Whether viewed as violent by nature or by whatever reason, this is an assumption that seems to play into this cops approach to arresting blacks.

Here is the exchange in which the officer mentions these assumptions of blacks being prone to violence:

I did post this in the thread discussing how the police handle those resisting arrest, but it does seem relevant to this discussion as well....

Okay, okay, you pulled it straight from someone else's ***. I forgot, that is kind of place you like to hang out.

Serious question, are you going to explode with anger one day? Maybe shoot up a mall or something? You need help. You seem to have a problem speaking without flipping out. I feel sorry for your family. Family get togethers must be rough.

Reported to the real authorities.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure the fact that it's being discussed necessarily means that it is emphasized over things like public safety, but I can see how it would get greater attention in the officer's mind anyway. Many officer's wives probably remind them of this sort of stuff every time they leave for work.

But you said the entire approach to training was problematic. I'm trying to imagine how they could leave this sort of stuff out of it and what sort of approach you believe they should take.

Negged and reported. You should definitely receive a ban for saying crap like this. Absolutely uncalled for.

Just ignore him. He went way beyond the line with fish months ago, went into hiding, and has returned to go on his rants, which when intelligently refuted and rebuked, are met with further misinformation, rants, name-calling, and such, all with very hostile and racist overtones.

I'm going with contempt.

He threatened to expose things about fish's wife a while back. I have a really hard time imagining that he knows jack **** about fish or his wife, but it was so far over the line. He's completely disgusting.

I engaged him yesterday and got one of the stupidest most asinine responses I've ever gotten on Jazzfanz in return, which is really saying something. I've got him on ignore now. I'd rather try to have a serious conversation with Boris.

Not the post. His very existence.

You degenerates are something else. Cry me a river.
