For those of you who don't like Jimmer...

This is why I compare him to Reddick. Reddick also hit that wall and almost collapsed, but then fought through, figured out how to adjust to the rigors of the NBA, and is now a solid contributor. Jimmer willl likely go down the same path, but his more all-around game than Reddick may help him adjust. However I am afraid that some team will pick him up thinking he is a combo of Parker and Reddick somehow and expect more of him than he can actually do and he will therefore be broken before he can adjust.

I can't help but wonder whether if Jimmer weren't white, the conversation about him here and elsewhere would be quite different.

If we darft Jimmer and get a regular season game on a Sunday, I hope he's not a jack mormon and decided to choose the right and sit out and go to church instead of play...

That's the only way I can think of (short of winning us a championship) where I'd gain an ounce of respect for the guy.

Dear KOC, if you're targeting this guy to sell moar tickets to BYU fans, for the love of God trade down in the draft for future assets or cash and DON'T waste a lotto pick on the kid...thank you.

You can feel free to address this from a racist rather than basketball standpoint. Knock yourself out. We have comparisons to Curry, Reddick, Nash, Terry, and others. I think they are all valid to a point. If all you choose to see in those comparisons is the color of their skin, and even then to ignore the comparisons to black as well as white players, well I feel bad for you.

First, I care not a whit what Jimmer's skin color is. My frame of reference is the multiple explicit or implicit references to Jimmer's skin color when assessing his skills or NBA potential. Much of it is, IMHO, overt or veiled racial stereotypes.

Second, this is a very long thread, I have neither the time nor inclination to read the whole thing, so it is very likely that I've missed some discussions/comparisons to other non-white players. I am not referring to everyone who has ever said anything on this topic, but to the many who have injected explicit or implied racial stereotypes, and there's enough of them here or elsewhere to make this a legit observation.

I realize that some of the nuances in what one's trying to say are difficult to project in such a format as this, but you've misread completely misread/mischaracterized my post. Not necessarily your fault, as that's the nature of the internet message board beast.

I even pass out by at least 5:00 a.m. and go to church hung over every single week. Who do these professional Mormon athletes think they are?

Stunningly similar. Although Curry did put those stunning numbers up as a junior. Here is a tid bit from draftexpress on Curry, after reading this, I'm almost sold on Jimmer:

Defensively, Curry puts a solid effort in, but is extremely limited by his poor physical tools on this end of the floor. He lacks great height, length or strength, and possesses below average lateral quickness, making him a potential defensive liability when being matched up with some of the more explosive guards the NBA is known for.

I think Jimmer would be great to draft with intentions for him to be our second unit leader. Let's assume by the grace of god we get Barnes and Jimmer, we could have a future Jimmer/Hayward/Millsap(assuming we keep) bench. That is a damn good bench in the future, assuming Jimmer pans out(I know Hayward will at least have a good career as the second unit 3).

That gives us a lineup of Harris,Miles(or someone better, if god's love shines through), Barnes, Favors, Jefferson. That's a nasty lineup, assuming Barnes and Favors pan out.

Or, we don't get Barnes but we get Kanter and Jimmer. Assuming we don't trade anyone, but let festinko and elson and okur walk, we have a bench of Jimmer, Millsap, and Kanter. That bench would rape and pillage everything.

It is kind of fun rebuilding, there are so many directions this team can go. I doubt we get Jimmer and a Barnes/Kanter, but I think he could be a great compliment to our future contender.

I'm slowly beginning to buy in. I never cared a thing about BYU hoops (and still don't really). However, watching Fredette a few times and then doing a little homework on the guy, I'm starting to come around. It just seems like he has a will to win and compete that you can't teach. I know many of us don't want to "waste" a lottery pick on him, but frankly, what else out there is a sure bet? What if he is the next Maravich or Nash? I say if he is still there at #8, take him. Take the gamble. Would it really be any worse than drafting another Kirk Snyder? The Jazz would get a pure scorer, sell some more tickets, and really would they be out that much?

Maybe it has been mentioned (since it's a loooong thread) but is it just me or Jimmer's crossover-step back jump shot move reminds people of Deron??

See, this is why the Jazz (who aren't winning anything this year so quit hoping to beat the odds) need to lose their games so they have the option to draft Jimmer with their second lottery pick, if not someone better.

If only NJ would lose and get the first lottery pick into the top 5.

I think that's where Jimmer stole the idea from.

Props to him being able to master that.

One thing that bugs me about Jimmer is that he is taking 3-point shots 5 feet behind the line too often... granted he made a lot of those but I am sure he missed a lot of those too. Not the best shots he could have gotten.

From Chad Ford:

1. Jimmer Fredette, PG, BYU Cougars

The Good: Fredette is a scoring machine who can fill it up from anywhere on the floor. He has crazy range on his 3-point shot and also is adept at finishing around the basket. He's tough and he's a winner. He's unafraid to put his team on his back. When he's double- and triple-teamed, he shows that he can be a willing passer as well.

The Bad: He's not an explosive athlete. He's not a stiff, but he's not in the same league with the ultra-quick point guards the draft has produced the past few years. He's also undersized if he projects as a 2 in the pros. His defense is as bad as his offense is good.

The Upside: There's no player in the draft who can divide NBA scouts the way Fredette does. Some see his toughness, shooting ability and basketball IQ and are convinced he'll find a way to be a serious NBA player -- either a point guard like Steve Nash or a big-time shooter like Ben Gordon or Stephen Curry. Others see an undersized 2-guard who lacks lateral quickness and doesn't have a position. They scream Adam Morrison at worst, Eddie House at best. Fredette has been awesome on the big stage in the past. If he can take an undermanned BYU team deep, he's probably a lottery pick.
