Pleiss Traded to Philly!!!

They are two different deals. Do you honestly think that DL would have passed on the 2nd round pick trade because he didn't need money to buy out Pleiss?

The trade was a risk DL had to take.. no guarantee Bolomboy would still be available with the 55th pick.

Had he not needed the money and really liked Bolomboy, he would have just taken him, no?

Sixers still deciding whether to waive Pleiss or keep him. Awesome trade if both players are waived. :)

Loaded with young developing bigs, Embiid, Okafor, Noel. Pleiss will be waived, book it. Sixers did the deal to utilize their cap space to add assets (cash and picks). Costs them nothing to pay Pleiss since they will be below the floor. Smart asset management.

Looks like the ghost of Sam Henke is alive and well and living in Bryan Colangelo's closet.

Yeah obviously we'd save in that third year but it would not equal the $20 we handed out. Would buy us some time, give us flexibility, and increase his trade value if we went that route. It's not a complete homerun financially though. Maybe they would need to tack on one more year... or flip it from a PO to a TO.

Understood, I just don't think the "time you buy" is worth the cost. If an extension gets done (I'm doubtful, but who knows?), I believe it will be 4 years.

Yes. But how this proves that he made the trade because of the Pleiss situation is beyond me. He made the trade because he thought $3 million and trading down was worth more than picking now. End of story.

... or he anticipated having to buy out Pleiss, hence needing the money to cover for his mistake?

One of those things we'll just never know, cos he'll never reveal it.

I bet you cannot find a single source, not even the dumbest message board poster, who called what we got for Kanter a "haul." Everybody knew he destroyed whatever trade value he had. Anybody who wanted Kanter simply needed to offer a bag of peanuts to the Jazz, or wait until he was a free agent and pick him up for nothing.

Dennis Lindsey 2/20/2015 Jazz vs. Blazers in-game interview with Bolerjack. Stated Kanter had talent and otherwise we wouldn't have been able to get "the haul" that we did for him.

The Jazz brass let it slip that they were not happy with Tibor's work ethic and production about a week ago. It seems like he ended up in DL and QS dog house like Trey, Kevin Murphy and some others. At some point your are dead to the coach and the front office. That is different than Sloan as a player could rehab himself to coach. Once you hit the dead list with DL and QS it's over.

This is great news. I've been concerned that the resident whiny little bitches were running out of things to bitch and moan about. Now we get to re-hash what a terribly run organization we have yet again.

OK bitches, be sure to take full advantage of this opportunity, as your chances to complain are going to dry up very soon, when Utah is kicking the ever-living crap out of teams this year.

GO JAZZ!!!!!!!

Why does the like button keep disappearing? Oh well, repped.

Wait until you see the assets OKC has to give up to get rid of Kanter. They need to bring no salary back and there are only about 10 teams that can do that for them, with almost none of those teams needing a Enes at 18 million.

Understand that resigning Kanter then hoping to trade him was the only way to get value for him. That could have been OUR headache. . .

The Jazz will regret day they make this one!!! Plies is hero for eastern europe and we will never regret this!!!!

You can't control me Fry SAUCES!!!

a) Small salary dump
b) Pleiss may actually get some playing time in Philly, giving him a small shot at having an NBA career

So, does anybody want to continue to say that the Kanter trade was even an average deal?

We're gonna end up with a couple 2nd rounders, with a slim chance at a first rounder. Awesome.
yep addition by subtraction. We were a better team after the trade and we would have lost him for nothing, absolutely nothing. So that was still an okay trade for the Jazz. Nothing will ever change those facts.

Not that I have any desire to rehash Kanter, but if there are two teams willing to give a player a max contract, I'd suspect that player's value on the market may be at least a tier above packing peanuts.
Either the Jazz get nothing for Kanter...Or they get something for him.
.
It's my understanding that you are arguing for nothing being better than something. He was leaving in the off season. The Jazz didn't want him, he didn't want to be here. I can't fathom how some people still wish the Jazz had received nothing instead of what they got.

That trade back was an extremely rare situation. I doubt a similar trade has ever involved that much money. Just because DL got an incredible deal on that does not mean that second round picks are now worth millions.

Great point. Know how much DL paid Denver for the Gobert pick? IINM, $3M max. Because that was the NBA limit on how much a pick could be sold for - or at least it used to be. So yeah, DL swapping 2nd round picks for $3M was a huge coup.

DL took a gamble that Pleiss could be a Memo-like player. Didn't work out. You'll never win if you don't try. The GS 2nd has almost zero value. You can get the same quality player as a street FA.
