What's new

Obama might be the best President in 100 years.

Why would this absolutely powerful being even bother at all with what humans are doing? It's like a human flipping out over ant morality.

Additionally, Gameface is specifically talking about the character God from the Bible. Not your own personal view of what God is.

I saw a bunch of ants fornicating the other day so I turned my garden hose on their ant hill.

It had to be done. Hopefully you'll make up for it by sending them an ant-human hybrid to die for their sins.

Not sure why you guys feel the need to completely disrespect someone else's faith.
I'm a to each their own.

Not sure why I'd feel the need to bash away at others beliefs unless those beliefs directly harmed innocent people.

I'm no great example of a Christian, but I do believe in God. Totally okay with those that don't and give the exact same respect regardless. Has no effect on my opinion of them.

I'm also not offended by anything said here... I simply don't get it.

Eh, come on. We're not "disregarding". We're just making fun. Why is religion all that serious?

I think I stated plenty plainly that I don't find it offensive.
It seems a bit more than just having fun with it to me, but I will happily take you at your word because I think you're a good dude.

I am generally curious, at times, why some want to bash one for believing in God.

No biggie, was just asking and thanks for the answer.

(Also, if God does exist.. that is kind of serious as far as belief is concerned.

Just for the record, I respect Christianity. I also don't share the perspective on its role in history that many of less religious posters have. But surely, we gotta let go of the idea of the "sacred". In this incredible modern age, shouldn't the concept of God have at least kept up?

Thanks for the respectful response.
Are you denying the possibility that "this incredible modern age" is a departure from God?
Is it entirely impossible that God's values and ideals have been consistent while society veers ever so slightly away from those same values and the secular see such a departure between "reality" and the Bible?

I don't claim to know God is real. That's why I don't find it odd when others don't believe.
Most Christians seem to have this huge divide between belief and non-belief, whereas I view both as paper thin.

It's not that. The tribal God who's pretty much a father figure is so year 800. That's the God that everyone must talk about in a certain way else he gets upset. It's too small a God for this age. This is the one reason many see belief and "science" as incompatible. That God has become smaller than us.

There are some modern Christian thinkers that I like for having a bigger view of God. Check out John Shelby Spong, for example. He's an interesting Christian.

If you think I don't get bashed for being an Atheist i've got a surprise for you. Maybe you don't. Maybe you just don't do it openly.

I find religious faith to be ridiculous. When I talk about it, I'm gonna talk about it like it's ridiculous.

It DOES harm people. Faith is an abdication of the mind and an insistence on fantasy over reality. But more than that, within the fantasy it becomes okay to perpetrate all sorts of harmful and despicable acts in other people's reality.

If faith can't withstand scrutiny then it is worthless.

Great clarification. I agree whole-heartedly that if God exists most have Him in too small of a box (our itty bitty paradigms).

You were not scrutinizing in the sense you're implying here.
It was way more hating. That's fine. I just don't understand.

Some people bash. It's what they do. I get bashed. I just don't have the temperament/desire/time to return the favors... especially in an overly generic sense.

I have REPEATEDLY stated I hate religion. The Bible warns of this over and over. See: Pharisees.
I don't hate you for not believing. That'd be ridiculous.

I think mean people are just mean. The same obnoxious Christians would still be obnoxious if they didn't believe. They'd still be judgmental fools.

I don't come on here every day with the intention of talking about religion.

When I do talk about it I do so in a way that reflects my honest feelings.

I never intentionally offend. I was sharing some inside jokes with a fellow Atheist in a public place. I can see how that is beneath the person I could be. For that I do apologize.

No harm done at all. Nice exchange, tbh.

Was God wrong? Look at the worldwide problems cause they left a few alive each time. Would we have world peace had these peoples God said to destroy? Yes!

This is public opologies to Siro as he got deeply offended as my comment meant as sarcasm was taken literally. I know there are ppl who speak an believe this way so I was mocking those.

Back to OP topic... Forgive me for outsiders opinion but I think the best President USA had in last 40 years was R. Reagan. After him it was steady downhill ride, sorry.

I think we're gonna look back and appreciate this administration.

My thread title was an attention grabber, but I'd say best president since Eisenhower.

please explain his lasting acomplishments.

only one i see is the iran deal.
and it is the exact same deal clinton made with north korea. and we know how that is on shaky ground

Changes to health care. Sure the ACA looks like it is going down but now even the Rs are talking about total coverage.

Starting a national change in how Cuba is viewed

Getting Japan and S Korea to put the "comfort women" issue to rest. Major step towards a tri-lateral alliance between America, Japan and S. Korea.

US auto industry turn around

No more "Don't ask, don't tell" in the military

Increased funding in renewable energy

All good changes IMO. Can we stop acting like he's the worst, or best, thing ever?

Best or worst

Depends on your axiomatic mindset.

I think what really happened is public rejection of the way things are. Public awareness conflicting with management.

The progressives got rattled and lost their patience, pushed too hard.

Overall, this is a historic turning point. People worldwide want a more traditional life, more freedom, less bad management.
