2016 NBA Season Notes/Info

New Orleans wing rotation can't be easily fixed, unless they send away Asik for a TPE to a team that just decided to tank together with a 1st and a 2nd rounder attached. Candidates for an impeding tankjob are
-the Clippers if Paul/Griffin or both leave
-the Knicks if they were smart about surrounding Kristaps with a future contention core(unlikely)
-the Pacers should go teardown mode if they choose to trade George away for assets. In that case they could swallow stupid contracts for extra assets
-Bulls are in the same situation as the Pacers
-Hawks if Millsap leaves, but I don't think they consider a full tankjob a viable option
-Heat could go hard reset and cash in on Dragic and Whiteside while they got value
-Nets are 2 drafts away from regaining control over their draft picks and going the Philly route. Best contender to swallow contracts to gain extra shots at the draft. Asik would even come off the books before the first Nets guy hits restricted status

Hornets, Mavs and Blazers should go tank mode but are too proud/stubborn to do it. They'll chase that one transformative guy they'll never get since they got no valuable assets to offer for rebuilding teams.

Players the Pelicans could take a flyer on in free agency:
Shabazz Muhammad - massive risk, but maybe worth it to throw 14 his direction and I still wouldn't be sure if the Wolves won't match. This requires Asik to be moved in advance and Holiday agreeing to take roughly 15 a year.

Tony Snell could be worth the risk on a small contract, but I reckon other teams will take the risk as well and have more cash to spend. His BBIQ is very limited, but he can make an open three with good accuracy. You'd bet on his accuracy being stable when frequency goes up. Pairing him with Cousins could slow the game down for him when the constraints are more clear and he just has to move around Cousins back to the basket action and bet on help defense to generate more looks for him. I'm not even sure the Bucks wouldn't match a mid level sized offer.

CJ Miles is similar to Snell, but he'll command a bigger salary. Could still be worth it around 12 per year. His contract won't be a steal but he could be worth it in role player capacity for the Pelicans.

Jodie Meeks reclamation project on a cheapo contract could be worth it as well. You'd have to give him a 2 year deal, player option and low salary. Same for Ben McLemore.

Dion Waiters or Tim Hardaway Jr are smaller scoring guards. Both are decent shooter and will command contracts in the 12-15 range. Neither can't play SF against LeBron, Kawhi, Durant etc.

I'm not sure whether it works, but if Gallinari opts into his final year($16M), can he be moved after July 1st by the team? Denver could get a 2018 1st from New Orleans in exchange for a TPE or taking back Asik as they don't need capspace for another 2 years at least. In that case they'll want 2 1sts though. I'm pretty sure though that Gallo will opt out and seek his last long term contract for around 20 a year. He'd be a very good fit for NEw Orleans though with positional flexibility.

I think CJ Miles should be their first option and Hardaway/Waiters the next while crossing fingers that works his *** off and becomes a decent role player. If you take a smaller guy with the remaining capspace you're basically banking on Solomon becoming decent. You need an answer on the wing defensively for the best wings in the league, but you need him to also be a threat as a spot up shooter, cutter or screen setter/constant mover on offense to play him 30 min a game.
Shabazz, Snell and McLemore are restricted, so that's a huge gamble binding your capspace for 3 days until the team decides to match and not being able to participate in real negotiations for that time frame.

Bill Simmon's self deprecating tweets about his Celtics are always entertaining....

Yah he's bad. I've even gone as far as saying the NBA should step in and do something about it. The NBA is trying to put out a good product and what he's doing is bad for the product.

i actually agree with OL Tom Heinsohn is just an absolute embarrassement to the NBA get rid of him

Get Adam Silver in a room and make him watch a whole game commentated by him, and see if he doesn't want to do something about the (lack of) professionalism. Like it or not, he is representing the NBA to the WORLD now with League Pass, and not just Boston, and he isn't doing a good job of it.

Steph Curry went 0-11 from three tonight. Just a reminder that even the best shooter in the world can have really bad games shooting the ball.

Lisa Leslie is doing a GREAT job with sideline reporting for TNT. It was a bit rough for her on The Celebrity Apprentice, but it's good to see her bouncing back from that.
