Jonas v Enes

With P. Jones returning to Baylor, and in all likelihood Barnes heading back to UNC, unless we get a top 2 pick it looks like we may be looking at the young Euros (BTW, I'm a Kemba fan, but no way would I take him 4-6). Anyways just wanted to get a feel for who people would rather take: Kanter or Valunciasdlfkjs.

I think Montiejunas will be a good player. He's got the talent to be a Kukoc-type player.
He can do everything that Okur did offensively, and more.

His defense though...

So say we get the #3 (Irving/Williams are off the board) and Barnes is on his way back to UNC, who you taking?

We'd have to look at Brandon Knight, Montiejunas, Kanter, Vesely, Terrence Jones and The Smack. All could be starters, and all are good options. Regarding Bismack Biyombo, think rookie Millsap, but an inch or two taller. It'll be interesting to see how he measures at the combine.

He more closely resembles Elton Brand or Derrick Favors. He has extremely long arms.

I honestly will be happy with any three of these guys. While Kanter may be nothing and I don't like what I've read about him defensively, it would be nice to have a big that can be the focal point of the offense. If Valanciunas or Biyombo can just be a big, physical presence on defense and on the boards, then that's awesome too. I lean towards Biyombo, though. I haven't heard anything about Valanciunas' or Kanter's motor one way or another, but Biyombo seems like he has a lot of grit to him and has an advantage in proven athleticism.

So has anyone investigated Jonas much? The fact that DX continues to list him as #3 on their list of top prospects for some reason continues to surprise me. Probably xenophobia - something about skinny euros makes me think them all really soft. But maybe he's not. I feel like I've naturally disregarded him for so long and yet DX, even after they re-evaluate their top prospects, slot Jonas as a really high value. Do I gotta get over my prejudice?

I love Kanter, but Jonas ... sheesh, maybe it's his last name. It's too hard to pronounce. Maybe that's why I disregard him. I'm not a xenophobe, I just never learned to read.

This echoes my sentiments exactly. At first I wanted nothing to do with Jonas. When I saw him in mock drafts all I thought was a stiff 6'11" white euro that was high on boards given his size. And his highlight videos didn't scream "pick me". However, the more I read about him the more I'm intrigued. I guess head to head he's done really well against Kanter and his wingspan has to be about 7'6". If he's got a good motor I would be hard pressed to decide between him, Kanter, and Biyombo.

Biggest problem with Jonas V is he apparently has a big buyout perhaps similar to Rubio's or Tomic. So he could even potentially slide to 12. At that point I say draft him and wait a couple of years. His rebounding numbers are definitely in the Love range, FT% 88, 71% FG. Obviously he mainly scores around the basket, but he is only 18 so hopefully he can extend his range. His FT numbers seem to indicate that he can.

PS-- here are Jonas V's numbers from last game. Jonas Valanciunas added 16 points, 8 boards and 4 blocks. Unfortunately full box score was linked to wrong thing.

If we get Biyombo do we then get rid of Sap?

As much as I like Sap, he's seriously flawed on defense(and he's very disappointing on the boards). This Biyombo guy could bust, but if he pans out he could really make out team tougher on defense. That is exactly the direction I hope we go. If he can finish strong inside, rebound, and be a tough defender he'd improve our team big time.

KOC is not going to get rid of Millsap unless he is blown away with something, probably all star level player. The guy expands his game every year, plays solid D, and has only missed 12 games in his career. Hell just look at last game he got a nasty bruise to his eye and comes back out with a smile and hits his next three shots. That is everything Jazz look for in a player.

As for Jonas, Kanter, and Biyombo, they are all 18 so are 2-3 years from playing heavy NBA minutes. KOC doesn't have to get rid of Jefferson or Millsap anytime soon given their rawness and youth. I would be lying if I said who will be the best of them, I haven't the slightest clue. Kanter has beasted at every level and has an NBA ready body. Biyombo is guaranteed to be a defensive stopper but will his offense be Ben Wallace 2.0? Jonas V has traditional center size and is not soft despite being skinny. He has a nice touch including a 90% FT rate, but can he gain weight or will he be 230 forever like Tomic?

The other two, Donatas and Vesely, hopefully we want no part of. They are the prototypical soft Euro big men that probably have Bargani posters on their walls. They will average 5 rebounds a game over here.

I've come to the conclusion that I will easily be able to talk myself into any of the projected top 6-7 picks.

According to Ryen Russilo on the ESPN NBA Today Podcast

Jonas V never takes a jumpshot. He sets poor screens and then rolls to the hoop. If they ball is passed to him he tries to dunk it. Plays defense with his hands and arms and not his feet. Doesn't look like a good prospect according to Russilo.
