What's new

Bodyslam a reporter in montan and still win an election! that's how much the media is HATED

It's ****ing pathetic for anybody to defend what happened here. The guy asked a question that this douchebag didn't want to answer, and then when he persisted, he was physically assaulted.

It's one thing to say this was an isolated incident and you aren't going to judge too harshly based on that, and another thing completely to rationalize why anyone would have the right to assault someone because they didn't like their line of questioning.

There were a lot of things I liked about Montana in my 12 years living there, but words can't describe how great it is to get out of the shadow of redneck politics.

It's gotten to the point with republicans that they'll vote for any jackass, just so long as there's an (R) next to their name.

lol context bro! if it was in a private room on private property it's called TRESPASSING!

in some states you could get straight up shot in the head for that

Wrong. The event took place at the Gianforte for Congress Bozeman Headquarters, where a barbecue was to be held for Gianforte's volunteers. The press was expected to attend this event. There was even a crew from Fox News set up for interviews. The reporter was not trespassing at all. It was an office for the Gianforte election campaign. You can find photos of Gianforte leaving the event after without speaking to reporters. It is very obvious from the photos that that is not anybody's private home, but an office building. It was clearly not trespassing at all. But you do love your alternative facts....

Further, as one of the Montana newspapers stated at the time:

The Billings Gazette said it was “at a loss for words.”

“If what was heard on tape and described by eye-witnesses is accurate, the incident in Bozeman is nothing short of assault,” the newspaper wrote. “We wouldn’t condone it if it happened on the street. We wouldn’t condone it if it happened in a home or even a late-night bar fight. And we couldn’t accept it from a man who is running to become Montana’s lone Congressional representative.”

"If it happened in a home". In other words, it did not happen in a home. Who ever heard of a multi millionaire setting up his campaign headquarters out of his own home? Lol. It happened in an office building, and constituted assault. In no state in the United States would Gianforte have the right to shoot the reporter in the head. Don't let the facts get in your way, Dutchjazzer....

A dude got body slammed big deal. Stop being a politicizing *****.

An overabundance of poorly informed posts in this thread make it a real chore to read through. Here, let me educate some of you:

#1 This district is 90 percent white.
#2 It voted Trump overwhelmingly, by 21 pts.
#3 A democrat has not held this seat since 1997.
#4 The DNC did not help finance Quist's campaign. He largely competed with the hard work and money of volunteers working at the small grassroot level.

So for partisan repubs, yay, I guess you should feel good that you managed to hold onto this completely irrelevant seat.

But for anyone into political statistics, it's pretty obvious that 2018 is going to be a massacre for repubs. In even the reddest districts, repubs are barely squeaking by. Most districts aren't going to be 90 percent white and so supportive of Trump. For districts that are competitive, that sub 40 percent approval rating by Trump will prove to be a hinderance rather than an asset. Districts light red or purple will be painted blue. Most models show democrats retaking the House well over 50 percent of the time. Once Democrats take the House, Trump's presidency will be over. They'll either impeach him or block any legislation. Trump should be working as hard as he can to accomplish his agenda right now. He's not and soon he'll run out of political capital anyway.

1) Yes, Montana is overwhelmingly white. Is that a problem?
I
2) Yes, it voted for Trump. It also voted for a Democrat Governor over Gianforte. Montana doesn't have an issue voting for democrats.

3) Yes, congress has been in R hands for a while, but you can't base Montana voting on that and the presidential. Look at the senate. Look at the Gov. To ignore that voting history is to be willfully ignorant, which is amusing since you came in here talking about all the misinformation spread. In fact, let's look at a quote from a poly sci professor at the University of Montana. “Democrats have had trouble coming up with strong candidates for the state’s lone seat on the House for a long time,” Greene said. “This election will likely not be different.” Gee, I wonder if that's a reason?! Educate yourself Thriller.

4) You act as if the DNC didn't try to help Quist. They offered, he turned them down. Nice try on the spin though.

It appears I was wrong about the campaign party being at his estate. I thought I had seen that on the local news, I was wrong. My apologies for the mistake.

No worries.
I had no idea.

So many terrible and poorly informed posts here.

Thanks Red and Cappy for bringing some facts and sanity back into this thread.

It's gotten to the point that repubs will justify any stupidity or illegal act.

Huh?

Nothing justifies bodyslamming a reporter for asking a simple question about policy. But such is the case in Dump's America! It's open season on reporters, intellectuals, and the truth!

Ummmmm no. That's fake news.

What isn't fake news is the assault charge Gianforte was charged with.

A truly meaningful apology would have been made when there was something at stake. Like an election. Kudos to coming clean about what happened now but I remain deeply cynical of this guys character.

charged does not mean guilty!

if it was not in a private backroom of the hq! he should be found guilty!

if as i asume was in private backroom then he will be free to go

It's a campaign headquarters. A reporter walks into a room where the candidate is preparing to be interviewed by another news crew. And you want to claim that candidate has the right to physically assault the reporter? He has no such right at all. He has the right to defend himself if the reporter assaulted him, threatened him with a weapon, etc. But he does not have the right to assault him just because he was not personally invited into the room. He was assaulted because the candidate lost his composure. And, as expected, he was charged. With misdemeanor assault. The police are capable of determining from witness statements whether the candidate was acting within his rights by attacking the reporter. Because he was not, he was charged.

Try hard to pay attention here: if your argument were correct, he would not have been charged in the first place. "Private room? Oh, OK, he's lucky you didn't shoot him"

You're not doing a good job inventing your own laws to suit the fact that you were delighted that the reporter was assaulted. And that's exactly what you are doing. Inventing false legal arguments to find a way to justify your own joy that a reporter from a liberal news organization was attacked.

Even if there were a sign on the door stating "Private. Do not enter", that does not convey the right to physically attack and start beating up someone who ignores the sign and enters the room. All you're demonstrating is that you simply do not have the wherewithal to simply admit you were wrong. In other words, that's how much YOU hate the media.

Try applying your words "sometimes in life it is better to apologize" to yourself for a change.

Bruh, there's nothing this guy could do to make you happy.
