The "If Hayward Leaves" Planning Thread

If Hayward leaves you have to consider trading Gobert, imo. I think gobert is the type to turn down a sizeable chunk of Money to play for a contender. I 100 percent think he values winning a chip and becoming a legend over money. So do you think you can rebuild a legitimate contender in 4 years? I'm leaning towards no. If Hayward leaves we need a full 8 year rebuild. So that we are good long before our core hits UFA.

If he goes to Boston then they are definitely in win now mode. I would try to trade gobert to Boston for mostly not important players Fultz and Brooklyns future pick. I would lean heavily on Hood Burks, and favors. Trade them at the deadline. Joe Johnson Boris Diaw probably get traded this summer in hopes to pick up an asset and as a courtesy. I bring back Ingles and I'm definitely willing to match whatever is thrown at him considering that I have no salary left. I view him as a bridge, a mentor, a lifelong Jazz man, and a potential future coach. I think he's already going to get overpaid in his next contract so his value in a trade is minimal. His in-house value is greater than what we would get back. Hill's probably gone anyway as he is unrestricted and will likely make his decision in concert with Hayward, but if we were to sign him before a Hayward decision to leave I think that he's in the same boat as Ingles. Hold on to Exum cuz he can only go up, he isn't worth much now and there is a small chance that he could grow up into something much more. Lyles dido but smaller chance.

Now we have lost most of the Jazz but we have Fultz, Ingles, Exum, Lyles, (maybe Hill) 4 top 5 picks in the next 3 years, and whatever we can wring out of Favors, Hood, JJ, Diaw, and Burks.

I'd wait until trade deadline at least.

You don't trade Gobert. The odds of you getting another player like him, ever, are nonexistent . You will never get the value back for him that he brings to your team. You could possibly replace what you got from Hayward. You will never get another Gobert.

Like I can stand Hayward leaving. I will still probably enjoy watching the season, but no Hayward and Gobert, that would make the season terrible.

If you want to tank, just shutdown Gobert. It might piss him off, but I'd rather have a pissed off Gobert with 3 years left on his contract than no Gobert.

So your not going to build a contender with a gobert and picks in the late teens in the next 4 years.

If you keep him you're looking at having a mediocre team at best and starting the rebuild in 4 years instead of now. Basketball is a team sport.

The Jazz won't do that. I don't think that sitting a healthy Rudy is an option. Not only does it go against their character but I think it would also really piss off the other owners to the point that it could jeopardize profit sharing. Small Market teams like the Jazz just haven't paid enough dues and don't have enough market upside to really get away with that.

You've got a point. I mean, nobody ever finds players like Hayward, Paul George, Kawhi, Clay Thompson, Giannis, Gobert, Millsap, IT, Ginobli, Jokic etc., with late lottery picks, let alone worse.

Might as well just quit and not try.

Use Burks + Favors + draft picks to trade Jimmy Butler. Push Exum and Lyles hard to improve. Sign Jrue Holiday. And give Hood responsibility.
Then we are better than last year.

No they did not. They did not sit a perfectly healthy under 25 best player. They extended the rehab of an injured plus 30 best player and only by a quarter of a season at most.

Also there was no profit sharing and for all the SAS small market talk it's still Texas.
LOL the Spurs absolutely sat players to tank. You should call them the original tank Captains.

I didn't say that they didnt, but they did not sit a perfectly healthy 24 year old and they NBA did not have the profit sharing that they have now.

but there was a lottery.

Chicago LA and New York were all towards the top of the bracket in the playoffs. All three of those teams are s*** right now. If the Jazz were holding on to Rudy gobert while tanking to Rob those markets of a star that's not going to go over very well. Especially since those owners would be paying the Jazz to do it.
