Zach Lowe: Paul George would love to play with Gordon Hayward

Paul George will probably go to LA now. They have a pick and the assets.

Clarkson, Randle and #27 probably gets it done.

Indiana is the one deciding the trade not LA. I think the Jazz could beat that offer. Hood or Favors, Diaw, #24 this year and our pick next year. I guess if we had to throw in Lyles. I am not sure what Indiana wants though but I think Jazz could beat LA out.

We are dumb to do that trade for one year of PG.

This is the same stuff that was said when Harden was available.

Go be great. What happens if PG leaves?

You lost Favors (who you were going to lose anyways).

You lost Hood, but he is so average it hurts. He is probably the most replaceable player on the Jazz.

And you lost a couple of crappy draft picks.

If Indy says yes, you make that deal, even if for only one year.

I like being aggressive. I do. I want to try everything.

We can't trade #24 and ours next year because they are both ours. I would trade Hood and Favors and #30. Maybe #24. That's it.

If we get PG and Hayward still bails - $!#$. If we get PG and both leave next summer - double #!$%.

PG is going to LA next summer if not sooner. Book it.

If Jazz are healthy next year with that lineup I think they can push GS and maybe get a little lucky and beat them. Especially if one of their injury prone players like Curry or Durant goes down. It is well worth the Risk. Late first round picks are not worth that much. Most years some get sold for money. We can trade this years first and next. The deal does not officially go through until after July 1st. So the trade this year is technically for the player chosen not the pick, teams do it all the time.

Jazz need to take a risk. I think it gets Hayward to stay and I think George we are well run enough team with great locker room presence that maybe he gets convinced to stay. Or we just win it all and who cares. Yes maybe Hay signs a 1 and 1 but even then it shows Hayward that the team is willing to swing for the fences to win it all and that is what he cares about. We are not out much at all even if he leaves. I doubt we keep Favors or Hood long term and the late picks are meh assets. We bought the pick for Gobert which was a late first.

I ask, genius, because I'm curious how Hayward will be at the 2 as he's bulked up so much year after year.

Did he play the 2 at all last year? The year before?

What does playing the 2 entail that is so different than playing the 3 in today's NBA? Hayward has guarded 2's in the NBA every year of his career. So has PG. They are both wings. They play the wing position. The 2 and 3 dont really exist.

Which is why I'd rather make that same offer to Indiana but have them send George to Cleveland and then Cleveland sends Love to us.
I get that.

I just think Chicago trades Butler because they are irrelevant and Butler can help jump start a rebuild. Cleveland makes the most sense. Gotta find a 3rd team.

I think hayward.
Don't try to discuss this with cy.

I think it does not really matter they can both play both positions. But I think PG is a better shooter and his length would bother a lot of SGs. Hayward is stronger and better at defending SFs in general unless its a tall skinny SF. But it could change on matchups on defense. I think PG defends Durant better than Hayward probably.

On offense it does not matter the positions are the same offensively for Jazz. The other team will pick how to guard regardless of what we say.

I think hayward is the better ball handler and better shooter so I think he is better as the 2 on offense and I think Hayward is quicker laterally so he would be better as the 2 defensively as well.
I think george would play the 4 a lot though with Hayward at the 3, hood at the 2, and hill at point.

Fair enough, I dont think it really matters much. They both have played 2 and 3 plenty. George has said he does not like to or want to play the 4. Hayward is much stronger and can guard 4s a bit. Like when Griffin couldnt back him down. But I think they both can play some at 4 and can play 2 or 3 interchangeably should just be based on matchups.

Hill/Exum, Hayward, George, Favors, Gobert should be the best defensive team in the NBA if healthy. That is elite defense and still a really good offense. #1 defense and top 5 offense.
