What's new

Patrick Beverley Available

The other thing to consider here, is that having Beverly actually might improve Utah's leverage in a negotiation with Hill. If Hill can't get a deal with Philly or Brooklyn, his options for more money start to dwindle.

We won't tank... It won't work... take it off the table... that is why losing Hayward sucks is it will lead to the treadmill.

I think you are right... and I think it will be a huge mistake. We might even make the playoffs with our patchwork of a roster à la Portland last year and delude ourselves that we are going somewhere even without the lost FA star and then lose a couple more years trying to chase ghosts.

Tony Jones indicated that this doesn't mean we wouldn't re-sign Hill. It makes sense because both guys can guard 2s.

I think he is the only established guy we can get that wouldn't make it a forgone conclusion that Hill is gone. If Hayward left and we wanted to tank we could send Beverly to many teams (12 called) and get the equivalent of the OKC pick back. It's a great move for us.

I do think it is the OKC pick they would want because I don't think they'd want the cap hold this year. Second round picks have different cap holds iirc... so maybe they want #42.

Second rounders are really valuable supposedly this year.

HH still got this place on lockdown.

Yes and the impatient fan base will be blamed, because "we can't tank in this market". Our fan base could and would endure a tank if done right, but I think you'd have to trade Rudy and that makes my heart sad.

I would love to see Beverly in a jazz jersey next year

I think you can do it with Rudy on the roster... but he will have to be in on it. He will have to know we are not fighting for anything but losses this year and you have to assure him it's going to be just this one year. You'd be surprised just how many games we can lose with 4 rookies+Bolomboy getting 20+ minutes of play and Dante having free go at the offense and turning it over on 25% of his possessions.

I don't think you can bridle Rudy's spirit... I also think a true tank needs several bites at the apple. Saying we get the long term partner in the first year is assuming success that isn't there.

I just saw Dante using that many possessions in game one and needing oxygen on the sidelines.

It'd be tough for Rudy to buy in... they only have so many years. I think we'd be the Denver Nuggets post Carmelo, but more likeable. It wouldn't be too awful.

We cannot fit them both under the luxury tax.

Hayward 30M
Hill??(how much do you think he will cost? 20m? 25?) Lets say for calculation sake 20
Favors 12M
JJ 10.5
Burks 11
Gobert 21.5
Exum 5
Hood 2.5
Lyles 2.5
Diaw 7.5
Ingles ???10???
Neto 1.5
Bolomboy 1.5
2 first round picks 3M
-------------------------
138.5M

Lets say you dump Burks somehow and you just get rid off Diaw's non-guaranteed contract. this comes to 120M. If you take on Beverley's contract you get into luxury tax.

I don't hate the idea, but there's no way he makes us any better. I wouldn't mind him as a starting PG if we can get some more star power in
