What's new

Patrick Beverley Available

View Bev as a combo guard and this trade is easier to understand. He's played off ball a lot. If he took all of Hood's minutes last year are we better or worse?

Honestly I think they are crazy to give up that guy... he is a mother effer.

I don't hate the idea, but there's no way he makes us any better. I wouldn't mind him as a starting PG if we can get some more star power in

I think he makes us more dangerous in the playoffs. When we need to have numerous wing defenders against Houston or GS or San Antonio, he's a nice guy to have. Hill is a great all around player, but his defense didn't impress me this year. I know he might have been a bit hobbled, but it's always nice to have multiple options for perimeter defense.

We cannot fit them both under the luxury tax.

Hayward 30M
Hill??(how much do you think he will cost? 20m? 25?) Lets say for calculation sake 20
Favors 12M
JJ 10.5
Burks 11
Gobert 21.5
Exum 5
Hood 2.5
Lyles 2.5
Diaw 7.5
Ingles ???10???
Neto 1.5
Bolomboy 1.5
2 first round picks 3M
-------------------------
138.5M

Lets say you dump Burks somehow and you just get rid off Diaw's non-guaranteed contract. this comes to 120M. If you take on Beverley's contract you get into luxury tax.

Diaw doesn't come back at that number. He might even be used in this trade.

Burks can be offloaded and i think fairly easily. Favs can and likely is moved for a lower salary.

I expect us to pay luxury tax for a year here and there... this would be the year to do it. We have been at the salary floor for a while... time to reach into the coffers.

I don't think you can bridle Rudy's spirit... I also think a true tank needs several bites at the apple. Saying we get the long term partner in the first year is assuming success that isn't there.

I just saw Dante using that many possessions in game one and needing oxygen on the sidelines.

It'd be tough for Rudy to buy in... they only have so many years. I think we'd be the Denver Nuggets post Carmelo, but more likeable. It wouldn't be too awful.

I disagree on the last statement - this is the worst state we can be in(barring a BKN situation). This is pure and utter hopelessness and helplessness. You cannot get bad enough to luck out on a star in the draft and you cannot be good enough to really do damage in the playoffs... This is the situation I would most hate if we lost Hayward and unfortunately I think it's probably the situation DL is most likely to put us in. They won't tank... and they won't clean up the roster... they will simply try to patch things up with players in their late 20's early 30s whose contracts will be getting worse and worse with every single day, while their play diminishes and while we are wasting the years both of the team and of Rudy. I truly hate this prospect.

I assumed we get rid off Burks and Diaw for no returning money - we are still in the luxury tax if we take Beverley.

Lol.

Just try to be optimistic man. Anything the Jazz do they are going to be the underdogs.

And we are due to pay some tax. Can offload Bev before trade deadline if it doesn't work and take no salary back... can get a slight discount on Hill now that we have leverage. Can also unload Favs for less salary.

The salary is not a problem. I worry more about fit... don't know about his personality.

I read somewhere that the Jazz had the lowest payroll in the league this year. Is that true? If so, I would think they would have no problem paying some luxury tax.

We need a player like Beverley.

Offload Burks and cut Diaw and we are at 125M if we can get Hill starting at 19 and Ingles at 9. A little over the tax, but we've been cheapskates the last few years... let's spend a little.

Bev, Hill and Exum can all play the two... this may free us up to trade Rodney if a good deal happens tonight.

I think this will happen... makes to much sense... we have too good of a relationship... it will happen. I am going Lavar Ball and speaking it into existence.

It's weird because I'm usually the optimist when it comes to Jazz expectations. I absolutely love our current team. I think it's my favorite Jazz team of all time(including the finals teams). This team has character and charm. I loved the way it was constructed and I predicted we bulldoze over 50 wins and we win a playoff series. And they freaking did while being the most injured team in the league, while suffering both Gobert and Hayward missing playoff games. I love this Jazz team. It would be so heartbreaking to see it get dissolved after just 1 year.

If we get Beverley and/or Lou Williams, I don't see us keeping Ingles AND Hill. The only way that is possible is if we dump Burks. To dump Burks, we need to use an asset since he's a negative trade piece.

I'm just going off of Larry Coon's numbers. If someone has a link to info otherwise, it would be greatly appreciated.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q25

Interesting. Here are two sources which give the higher number I was remembering:

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/salary_cap - says $8.4 million (and indicates a huge jump from 2016 to 2017)

http://www.basketballinsiders.com/projecting-2017-18-nba-cap-room-under-new-deal-terms/ - also says $8.4 million

Not sure which is accurate, but my guess is the larger number.

Bev would be our 4th best player, if both Hill and Hayward re-sign with the Jazz. It' a no-brainer given his 5m/y contract if all it costs is the 30th pick.

Damn, he's only making ~$5-6M/yr? I thought it was $10M/yr. Get him now and plan to retain Hill. He's a great insurance plan if Hill doesn't come back (and even if he does). We were starting Shelving Mack in the playoffs, for hell's sake.

On the other hand no to Williams. He's very inefficient.
