Rubio traded to Jazz

Let's not start with the overreactions. Word around the league is that OKC isn't going to risk losing Westbrook for nothing, and will trade him without an extension.

This move could just be DL trying to get some value for that pick in case it turns to trash.

Ricky Rubio is a very good NBA player who has been on the Twolves his whole career.

We got him for nothin.

We should be the opposite of doom and gloom.

Yeah, on paper we got him for nothing. In reality, we got him by closing the door for Hill (and possibly Hayward).

I will probably turn optimistic once I watch some Rubio highlights. But I feel like my current state of doubt is the most real.

Hill turned down a 4-year/$80M extension with the Jazz, thinking he could do better. It was a mistake on Hill's part. The current market might get him 3 years @ $50M, maybe a bit more. If the Jazz making this move helps Hill get paid somewhere else, they're doing him a solid.

We might as well open the Kiss Hayward Goodbye thread. What an unmitigated disaster! I absolutely hate this. And we gave them a first round pick for the pleasure of clearing space for them. WOW!

If westbrook gets traded in a few months, this will make a lot more sense.

Yeah 80 million would be a struggle. How much can SA offer? I thought people were saying there wasn't a team who could offer a huge contract to him.

I dont think there is, but you only need 2 teams for a bidding war. That war was probably going to be Utah/SAS. Now SAS probably gets him for a bargain.

I just really want to know if this is the Millers being cheap ****s or a move the Jazz think actually improves the team.

Ricky Rubio for the OKC pick vastly improves the team. The west has improved to the point that I think OKC is going to struggle to make the playoffs.

No point in letting a pick go to waste, and Utah had cap room that was about to be wasted. And none of us knows what is happening with Hill. It's possible he is still in our plans, or it is possible he we might not have even had the option to keep him, and this was an insurance plan.

You are jumping to conclusions that may or may not be true.

How could Hill be in our plans? Assuming we re-sign Hill, Hayward and Ingles we are already over the luxury tax assuming 1) Diaw is waived and 2) Burks is dealt for nothing. Then add in Rubio at $14M. Yeah, Hill ain't coming back unless the Millers are now Paul Allen.

It sucks but Hill turning down the extension put us in this position. Well, also signing Rudy to extension midseason instead an offseason, but that was a no brainer of course. The reason being that Rudy's extension kicks in tonight, and suddenly we have no cap space at all. If Hill had extended this wouldn't matter, but because he didn't we can't be in a position with no cap space and no point guard.

I really wish he would have just taken the deal, I like him a ton as a player. Good guy and wish him well.

I'm lukewarm on Rubio. At least Gobert is going to feast on lobs.

If they thought that this move would push Hayward out (I'm sure it was discussed before Hayward opted out) they would not have done it. Hayward is either cool with Rubio or already gone anyway.

Remember Hill tied his FA decision to Hayward. Hayward never made such a statement about Hill.

This.

All that happened was we took a good player for almost nothing because we could.
This.
People would have bitched if we didn't use that money before it expired.

Finally a PG that can feed the bigs. Exum has been the only PG in Goberts career and he is inconsistent at it. I am excited to see some decent pick and rolls. Favors will level excel with him assuming we keep him.

I'm happy to see Rubio joining the team. Outstanding passer, good defender, good contract, gave up little to get him.

Another trade could be in the works that changes our financial outlook. Lots of things could happen, and you don't even know if Hill is going to be an option. If we lost Hill without some insurance, then we'd hear nothing but bitching about how Utah never does nothin but sit on their hands blah blah blah.

Like I said, we just traded a pick that could very well turn to trash and used our leftover cap space that people have been bitching and moaning about all season.

No matter what a GM does, fans gonna bitch.
