Rubio traded to Jazz

Rubio played his best basketball last few months but I did not know he was loved that much in Minny. All their fans are crying. Some are disgruntled they got nothing in return.

When will you idiots realize that Dennis Lindsey does gangster ****? He got us the Hill rental last year and people hated it. Look at how Hill turned out. He goes and gets Ricky Rubio for a cheeseburger and you all bitch and moan that we aren't making moves to take us to the top.

Ricky Rubio is 26 YEARS OLD!

Oh yeah, we should go wait on George Hill to conquest around the league looking for 20 million after even though he was good when he played, he missed almost every important game last year.

In Lindsey we trust, fockers.

As I stated in the other thread we must address the elephant in the room. His style of play is best in a run and gun up tempo offense. Something we do not have. Ingles, Joe Johnson, Favors, are built for the half court offense which is not Rubio's strength.

I like Rubio is a player, as a man, a teammate, etc I'm just worried about how he will succeed in the half court slow pace of our offense.

But I don't get that.
Rubio will be in his prime then.
Are you just assuming that Mitchell (or Exum) will be an All Star by then? Despite not ever being given the chance to be the main pg...
Worked for Stockton. He certainly was no all-star when he took over. He played behind Green for a couple of years, showed he was ready and then the Jazz got rid of their former all-star so Stockton could start.

The difference nowadays is that players don't stay in college for four years. So really, by the time a player is completing his first contract (pre-extension) he'd be the equivalent of a first year player in the old days. That's why I'm still not down on Exum. He was drafted as a project. Everyone knew he was probably the rawest player in the lottery. An injury set him back another year+. I'm anxious to see his progress and hope DL isn't exaggerating.

Rubio already using #TakeNote!

I'm sure Rudy has already told him to pack his attitude. Just wondering...are Jazz the team with the most international players?

Well I'm not so sure that Rubio can't thrive in the half-court offense because I think he can and will. He's got a great handle, great passing and can run the pick and roll. But I do hope that this signifies that this team is going to take its' opportunities more often and get out on the break when it's available.

Can someone with a little time break down our player by player contract situation for both this year and next based on our current roster?

I'm curious where we're at as a team cap-wise now and where we'd be next year with this group. Plug in Hayward at the max for this year and next.

And Ingles?

Best guess - keeping Hayward and Ingles giving us a discount ($12m) - is that the Jazz would be at ~$125M for 13 players. Jazz might then sign a rookie at the minimum and keep a roster spot open. Then I'd anticipate Lindsey trying to dump Burks at the deadline to get under the tax limit.

But I'm not 100% certain Lindsey is done. I think he makes one more significant move.

I could see something like Favs and Burks in a sign and trade for Gallo or something like that.

I think you raise an important and fair point. And you might be right. Here's my counter, though.

Rubio is going to be getting a much better team around him. I think the Jazz are both more talentedand more disciplined. Better talent means less pressure on Rubio, and better discipline means that aspects of the game such as screens and ball movement are going to make his job easier. I think that a shooter is a more natural fit for the Jazz, but I believe Rubio has a good chance of evolving and adapting his game to be a useful piece of the puzzle.

On top of that, Rubio is excellent insurance in the "doomsday scenario" where we lose both Hill and Hayward. Hopefully we don't. I don't think we will at this moment. But if we do, we now have an interesting new young core with Rubio, Hood, Gobert, and maybe Exum or Marshall. That looks like the start of an intriguing run and gun team that plays great defense. So no matter what happens with our key free agents, we won't be rebuilding from square one. We'll still have a gameplan.

Though I like Favs, he and Rudy are not an ideal pairing on offense. A few years ago, you excluded Rudy from the offense and had Favs operate down low. Now Rudy is one of the best P&R bigs in the business. Jazz need a shooter at the 4. We saw how effective the team was without Favs and with JJ at the 4. Barring a trade, I think you reduce Favs' minutes to keep him healthy. He plays all the minutes at the 5 when Rudy sits. And then only ~10 at PF.

One more thing to sell Hayward on after this trade - every single key piece for the Jazz is either just entering their prime or still hasn't entered their prime. Rubio's timeline is much more in line with Hayward's than Hill's was. Compare this to Boston - both their best players are probably past their prime and will be going down. IT has been meeting doctors to determine if and when he needs a surgery which is happening over a month after end of the season, hip surgeries are no joke . Horford is on the way down and already suffered a step back last year compared to previous seasons. AND they will need to lose one more piece for them to even get Hayward. and will probably lose another piece next year.

It seems pretty clear to me at this point that Hayward was well aware of this move before hand, and that DL wouldn't have done it without Gordon's approval.

Considering they had been openly communicating with him until the 30th I'd agree. Also PG going to the Thunder only decreases the value of that pick IMO. Makes getting Rubio for it even better.
