Rubio traded to Jazz

Rodney should be really benefited by the addition of Rubio. To put this in perspective..

Rodney was assisted most by George Hill (27 times)

Rubio assisted Wiggins 168 times.
Rubio assited Lavine 54 times.

I'm pretty damn excited about this fact. Quinn's offense is built around the wings. The better they can perform. . . the more success the Jazz will have.

One amazing fact about him: if you try to create a nickname out of his name and surname with the first letters switching like Cyrone Torbin, you still get Ricky Rubio. No messing around with this guy.

Fact#2: The author of a Song of Ice and Fire: George R.R. Martin? That's right, it's George Ricky Rubio Martin. His father named him after Ricky.

Fact#3: http://www.espn.com/espnmag/story?id=3684031

1. Rubio was 14 when he debuted with DKV Joventud, becoming the youngest player ever to play in the Spanish ACB League.

2. The requisite highlight reel: a half-court buzzer beater, a sweet behind-the-back pass, blowing past defenders and playing a little D.

3. People are comparing Rubio to Pete Maravich. It's an overused comparison and fraught with inaccuracies, but they do have the same haircut.

4. OK, here’s another highlight mix. We couldn’t resist.

5. Rubio is from El Masnou in Catalonia. Other famous Catalans include Pau and Marc Gasol, Juan Carlos Navarro, and huge Toronto Raptors fan Salvador Dali.

6. Rubio’s a “Simpsons” fan.

7. Just in case you forgot he was still in high school (!!!), Rubio turned 18 two weeks ago, and celebrated by taking a chem test.

8. And in another reminder of how young he is, he grew up idolizing Chris Paul. Who is all of 23.

9. But for 18, he’s pretty confident.

10. Last one, we swear. This move is just sick.

Another interesting Rubio fact. He was actually a referee in Philadelphia before going pro.

Gotta be another move. How are going to score? Jingles ain't puttin up 20.
But Hood can. I think he starts and Jingles comes off the bench.
With Rubio as the PG, expect Gobert to get more opportunities as well.
Hayward will have more chances, too - if he wants.

I could easily see Hayward average 25, with Rudy and Hood in the 16-18 range.

Rubio
Hood
Hayward
Gobert
(Favors)

But I do think another move may be in the works. Maybe just waiting for Gordon to sign.

I really don't think we brought him in to score. I think he's a true pg with fantastic court vision, who will get a lot of guys easy baskets. I'm not sure if it'll work in this high scoring league, but we're bringing back our roots.

Also, the Jazz slowing the game down to a crawl (a strategy that I increasingly love) worked as well as it did (and would have room to improve) specifically because the ball didn't stick and there was so much spacing.

Rubio doesn't help with either of those things. And he isn't a scorer.

I will stop being negative for some time now. I just loved George Hill and the fit. He's perfect for this team, salary and toe notwithstanding. I'm also one of the earliest Rubio haters, so there's that.

But he's a cool passer, a great defender, cute, and cheap. That's chill. As long as Hayward signs on, anyway.

i don't how Rubio not being a scorer is relevant. the offense is better with him in the game. whether he's doing the scoring or he's helping others do the scoring, it works out in the end.

Hill was a great fit for last year's team, especially early. When Hayward was out, Hill became the primary scorer. Also needed Hill to be a scorer when he played alongside Ingles. Joe hit some big shots, but his scoring average shows he was a selective and sometimes reluctant shooter.

If I'm Quin, here's my ideal line-up:

Rubio
Hood
Hayward
Gobert
Johnson

A playmaker, P&R big and 3 shooters. Rubio doesn't need to be a scorer. Jokingly, even if he shoots bricks off the P&R, he has Rudy moving to the basket for an OR and put-back.

Replace Johnson with Favors and you lose some range, but still have a player who can shoot out to 18ft or so and crash the boards.

Ideally, I think Favs gets all the backup minutes behind Gobert and only plays an additional 10-15 at PF. I think he should be on a 25min limit and probably not play in back-to-backs.
