[Jones]BREAKING: Jazz willing to engage Celtics in S&T talks: But Gordon Hayward must agree

People are suggesting :

Favors+Hayward for Olynyk and Crowder.
I don't think that works for them. That doesn't clear space for Hayward for them. They have already waived Olynyk rights. Favors makes more than Crowder. I could be wrong but I think even in the sign and trade they can't take in more than the salary cap.

Then you trade him. But he's always been happy in Utah, and the Jazz never mistreated him, I don't think.

I don't think it was lost on him that we were picking Hayward over him. He hasn't been getting much love at all with his injury-riddled season. I think he may not be super happy to be here at the moment. But things can certainly change.

They wouldn't play Olynyk next to Rudy. They'd play Olynyk off the bench as a 3rd big and stretchy 5.
How much are you willing to pay for a 3rd big who only plays backup center behind our best player Gobert. How many minutes will he get at backup? 15?

Yeah but then they have to trade Smart or Bradley too.

They probably actually want Favors to give them some interior defense, and its the reason we would be able to get Crowder's awesome contract (short of giving a 1st).
As for Smart, probably send him to NY for a pick or something.

The time pressure is on Ainge here. The Jazz can sit back and explore all kinds of trades. They don't need to capitulate to Ainge.

I made this point earlier... both teams have urgency but neither has a ton of leverage. Weird deal all the way around.

If Gordon doesn't dig in it is a moot point though. I'm not sure Crowder and Hayward would get along well with the stuff around that deal.

Who keeps talking about Favors being in the deal?

1. That's a dumb trade for the Jazz

2. That nullifies the reason Boston is doing this trade

Favors was a walking corpse last year.

Crowder is gone. He literally said he'd like to leave Boston. Pretty much a toxic player to have in the locker room for Boston atm. Amazing for us tho!

Why would Crowder want to stay? Ainge has basically already told him with the GH signing that he's not the guy. Add in the fact that their last two top 5 draft picks have been SF's and you can pretty clearly say he's not in their plans.

Things can change during the season. If he is healthy and filling a big role on a team that ends up better off than expected after losing Hyaward he might warm up to the idea of sticking around, and fans would warm up to him as well.

Problem is, we just watched how that played out. It didn't play out well.

He might recover tho. I'm very skeptical, but not long ago, Favors was awesome. I'd rather give up a protected first and take a chance on Favors.
