Hood

Does anybody else feel like he is our biggest wildcard right now? If given a bigger role, will he become our best scorer? If he steps up his game, will he get the max? If he just plays at the same level, does he still get overpaid?

I'm so uncertain about the guy. Do we put all of our future on him? Don't we have to hope he signs some Gobert type extension soon to avoid max money?

He's definitely an X-factor. If he stays healthy we need him to be a volume shooter and 20ppg guy, which he is capable of becoming.

We have a lot of "X-factors," though. Guys with untapped or unfulfilled potential. Exum, Hood, and Favors (if healthy - huge if) are all capable of major steps forward.

NAOS and I have similar takes often, and I'm going to swing off his a bit here: I think he could make a leap next year. Between the skill set he's already had, getting benched for Ingles, and now the deck being cleared and NEEDING him to shoulder more weight, I think we're going to see it come together.

I also think the Jazz are in the midst of altering and accelerating Gobert's development plan. Considering he will have entire offseason to polish and develop both his game and body in, the GIANT chip on his shoulder, and our needing him to carry a larger load on that shoulder, I think we'll see yet another leap from him. Adding a quick flash-to-the-post hook when he has a clear mismatch and having Rubio will probably add 5 PPG to his average.

I don't trust his health/consistency enough to confidently commit significant long-term money to him. He certainly has a shot at being an impact scorer but I would prefer we gauge his value on the trade market. I don't doubt this actually happens, however, as I fully expect the FO to attempt to build around our current core & Hood is clearly a large part of that. It all depends on the offers he receives as a RFA but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets overpaid (although I have limited knowledge of next year's FA class/potential suitors).

I agree with you. But your comment just makes me really upset that Hayward left his Jazz teammates for "greener" pastures when there was so much potential for the Jazz next season.

If the Jazz finish really strong, better than last year win-wise, I think Coach of the Year has to go to Snyder.

Hood is a starting-caliber shooting wing, but he's best as a secondary scorer.
This.
I think he will have to be the #1 option this year but is better off being a 2nd or 3rd option

^ agree but I think the way he does it this coming season will determine his long term future. I think he needs to get stronger and continue to develop that all around offensive game he showed flashes of last season.

For how much as DL has talked about him these last few days it's obvious they are going to focus a large amount of off season development on him. Hopefully he has the mentality to see his full potential.

He might score 20ppg but isn't much of a playmaker. Unless Rubios shooting is improved our offense will struggle a lot.

Burks has the capability to be the leading scorer, but Hood and Gobert should be in the high teens. Going to be fun watching this group work together without having an alpha dog.

I mean, in the sense that if you let him play 35 mpg and gave him the most shots, yeah. You're also losing 50 games if you do that.

Hayward was never an alpha. I hate that term, but I know what it means and Hayward was no alpha.

Agree and I think that's what I meant earlier about Hood's mentality.

Rudy has it in spades but we need a wing with it as well. Good thing DM also has it in spades. #jazzsavior

I think he was alpha, but he just wasn't expressive or demonstrative. That's one of the thing I always thought was really unique to Hayward, he didnt feel the need to show it, but he played like it (at least in his last year).

I know Hood has had problems with his nerves, like to the point where he throws up before games.
