Haha. I was joking sort of. I did try to get you to go...not sure GF was still around when I asked...and yeah, I think you alluded to funds being a little tight.

Eh. I'm still conflicted.

If you as me, based on what you've said, you're doing this out of pride. Some random lady on the internet challenged you, so you're going to follow up on it...because why? To win an argument? To be right? To help yourself feel better about yourself? Sure the money you get will go to the homeless, but we all know that's not the reason either of you are doing this.

Give some money to the homeless shelter, and spend the day with your wife and kids. They'd probly enjoy that more than you going pan handling with a stranger. Just my take.

Maybe it's something he has always simply been curious about and wanted to try and this gave him a reason to satisfy his curiosity.

I know I have always wondered what it would be like and wanted to try it as an experiment but never had the balls to actually do it.

I don't understand why people climb mt everest or run with the bulls. I think those people would be better off spending that time doing something fun and safer with their families.

Nah, all I was saying is different strokes for different folks. You don't agree?
Your post came across as very critical of what he is doing.
 
I consider anybody who gives to a panhandler as naive and a little stupid. Most panhandlers make more than the people giving them the money. Their was a news story when I was a teenager, that followed a panhandler to his BMW or similar car then to his huge house. I never have and never will give to a panhandler after seeing that. they have better options if they are really homeless and destitute.

The ones who are not professional are either drunk, druggies, or something similar.

In either case you should not be giving them money.

Research on panhanders indicates most (over 90 percent) are indeed homeless or displaced and make from $20 to $50 per day. The first spending priority is food, then, depending on the individual, smokes, alcohol, and/or drugs.

********. Had you had said our public school system I could have taken you seriously. Salt Lake city's police station cost 125 million dollars. Not one officer drives a Ford Pinto. We way over fund both our military and our law enforcement agencies, by an *** ton.

Well, it just doesn't make sense. Let's take your example of Everest, but try to relate it to what's going on here.

Me, online, talking about Everest: What a dumb thing to do!

Some stranger: It's awesome, but you're too ignorant to know. Come drink the glacial water and have yeti steaks.

Me: You don't know me! I once climbed a hill! I'm going to climb Everest to prove you, random internet stranger that has no impact on my life, wrong.

It's a life experience.

Dumb or whatever else, it is something that I will have done to try to understand who I am and who "we" are better.

No, the other person said they were in the middle of moving and that they'd get in touch at the beginning of August. If I had to bet, I'd give good odds she backs out.

Wanting our first responders to have inadequate equipment is literally the dumbest argument you could make against police funding. You want motorcycle cops to ride mopeds too?

Anyway, you brought up a question that has been bothering me and maybe you know about it. Why in the hell is it that public education seems so underfunded when the wrap themselves in the flag named charter schools look like 5 star hotels in comparison? My kids have both been stuck in rotten *** trailers for their first two years and yet Freedom America Booyah Academy looks like a frickin palace.

Same funding but one is becoming a 1/2 star trailer park motel and the other beautifies the city.

I've done it and it was fun. All I got was a nice complement on my smile, and getting no gain made me happy.

Almost quite literally on the walking path to the public school my kids attend is a charter school. Both were built within the last ten years. The average class size is larger at the charter school than it is at the public school.
 
I walked past the road home a couple nights ago at about 2am. I walked a friend home and got hassled non stop for blocks. She said she would be fine walking through there but I insisted. She was terrified the whole time. I saw lots of people shooting up and lots of fights.

I walked back through around 3am and cut through pioneer Park. It made me pretty sad. I wish we could help people more, but that won't happen with our current system or laws. I did chat with a few people. Most of them were from out of state who I talked to. Lots of terrible things were happening in that Park.
