Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

• If Utah gets a first-rounder of any sort for either Favors or Hood without also absorbing blah contracts, it will be a victory.

Hood is solid. Everyone in the league needs wings. The Jazz know him best, and have clear concerns about his night-to-night availability. Sometimes a team-player relationship runs its course.

But I would be in no hurry to give up on a rangy wing with proven 3-point range and off-the-bounce chops. That is especially true in the current cap environment, outlined expertly Monday morning by ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Bobby Marks.

Only a half-dozen or so teams have real room this summer. A few of those -- Atlanta, Phoenix, probably Chicago -- seem disinclined to spend it on veterans. Who is backing up the Isaiah Thomas Memorial Brinks Truck for Hood? The answer might be: nobody.

Kevin O’Connor: One of the guys I heard (the Jazz) are targeting and who is very available is Avery Bradley from the Clippers. I’ve heard Bradley has drawn interest from Oklahoma City and from Utah. So it’ll be interesting if Utah will be able to add another dynamic defender in Bradley who can also hit spot-up threes.

Kevin O’Connor: Utah is in an interesting spot because I’ve heard for them, really, everyone is available aside from Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. But that doesn’t mean they’re trying to just sell off everything and tank. I think they’re just trying to reshuffle and get a mix together that they think positions themselves better this season and moving forward.

What would we give up for Bradley, and would he come off the bench?

On the second paragraph, it sounds like it will be hard to make a trade as they are trying to improve, we need to be ready for the jazz not to make a trade at the deadline.

Not sure. Maybe we trade JoeJ, our 2nd and a future 2nd for Bradley? The Clippers get something for him without having to take back a contract.

I’m going to go ahead and say we aren’t going to trade for Bradley. He had a sexual abuse hush money thing from earlier this season and I’m not sure the organization could be down with that. Tough to match contracts and I wouldn’t give anything of real value for a rental

Only thing I can think of that makes sense for Utah on Bradley is an AB-AB swap. Don't see how it makes sense for Clippers, though.

Could sell them on the fact that AB is a stand-up guy would never have to pay hush money for anything. But, then again, the Clippers did have Ruben Patterson.

What would we give up for Bradley, and would he come off the bench?

I was watching an NBA video cast (I can't recall which one) and they would not get into details but they both mentioned that there are some off court rumors regarding Bradley. They smiled and decided they would not go into the details because it wasn't pertinent to their current discussion. But they seemed to indicate that it was impacting his trade value.

So Orlando is looking to dump contracts. If they are looking to shed, maybe we get involved in a lesser sense than Fournier, Gordon or Biyombo.

JoeJ, Thabo and a 2nd for Jonathon Simmons and Terrence Ross. Simmons is on a cheap deal through 2019-20 and Ross expires after next year.

Why for Orlando - they shed $17+ in contracts since JoeJ and Thabo are expirings. This trade completes their tank and they can re-sign Gordon without any financial hesitation.

Why for us: this trade provides an easy green light to trade Hood for a first rounder. By adding Simmons and Ross to a certain degree, Hood is more expendable. Simmons and Ross give us more than just Hood and they combine to make about what Hood would get this summer. And don't forget the pick Hood gets us....

Nothing has changed. Hood still needs to be traded. Paying him long-term is a mistake because it's going to be an overpay no matter what. Even if we're lucky and he only gets Ingles type money it's an overpay for what he consistently provides. And letting him walk for nothing is also a mistake. We need to get whatever assets we can get right now and move on. He's missed most of this winning streak anyway. We fine without him. Royce is balling.
If we are pushing for the playoffs, then dumping Favors or Hood for a 1st round pick is a mistake. Wait for the summer and do sign-and-trades. And who knows, with many teams struggling for cap space, maybe we can re-sign both of them for the mid-level exception price.

What do people think of this:

JoeJ, Thabo and our 2nd
for
Simmons and Ross

Then

Hood to Chicago for 2018 NOLA 1st

Sign Niang to an O'Neale type contract to occupy our 15th roster spot and help in the post with absence of JoeJ.

I'm fairly certain DL's already operating with a green light to trade Hood for a first rounder. No real reason to get $17M worth of players who are performing fairly poorly.

Taking Ross' contract is the price for getting Simmons who is a fantastic switch defender and athlete for the perimeter. Simmons will be in high demand the next couple days. Teams like OKC are already rumored after Simmons.

If we are trying to make the playoffs, Ross and Simmons help us. If we don't want Hood long term, we can trade him without hesitation if we have the depth Simmons and Ross provide.

So the Wizards are looking to move Gortat... Favs for Gortat and their first just makes too much sense. I think they can get Favs at less than Gortat's 13.5 M next season.

Why do all these teams want Jordan? I feel like Favs is just as good (in different ways) way cheaper and expiring. He's also younger. I mean he has done zero state farm commercials so DeAndre wins there.

Get me Gordon or Jabari in a trade or retain favors at the 4.

Those are the only two guys that I think have potential to fit next to Gobert and be better then favors. Although favors is probably better than either right now they have more upside.

Oubre or Porter are the two wings I want but doubt we can get. I would take either of those in a heartbeat over Hood.

If we can repair whatever Hoods situation is great, if not then trade him for something. Don't let him walk for nothing. He is worth a pick or another player with some upside still on a rookie deal.

Gortat involved in trade discussions. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...s-engaged-trade-talks-involving-marcin-gortat

We could be involved here. Favors is an upgrade over Gortat and could provide much needed cap space next season.

Favors for Gortat, Frazier, Shelden Mac and their 1st? Washington almost gets out of the luxury with this deal.

they need Tim Frazier right now though. Not a deal breaker.

I heard Meeks wants out... I'd do Meeks and Gortat. Or Gortat and Mac. Make the pick lotto protected and I think it's a fair deal.
