Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Tony Jones recently said on Twitter there's no chance the Jazz would bring in Gordon even with Fournier attached (who's a lot better fit than Biyombo) just because Fournier's contract is $17M/year through 2021.

So you're right, everyone is afraid of contracts right now.

Oddly enough, I think Fournier is worse for us than Biyombo. For one, Fournier has one more year of $17 million than Biyombo. Secondly, Fournier is a starter and he would be a 6th man here behind Mitchell and Ingles. And lastly, Biyombo is excellent insurance in case Gobert gets hurt or in playoff foul trouble. I would hate to pay the guy, but it's not like he's Noah and worthless money.

Yeah, you need to log off.

I agree re: flexibility. Unless 1sts come Utah's aay, theres no reason to trade Hood or Favors. Once they test the waters, they may find returning to Utah is their option.

Its not like the two are garbage. The only reason for trading is that Lindsey believes they'll be too expebsive. But what if they'r not? Trade them and Utah loses the ability to re-sign, IINM. Remember several years back when cap space dried up and Millsap had to sign a very cheap deal with Atlanta?

I'm to the point that I want Parker, Gordon, or the status quo. In that order. Beginning to feel like we dodged a bullet with offering anything for Mirotic.

This is really bad. A useful wing player paid appropriately is a worse fit than a guy who is terrible at a position we have completely filled making absurd money.

The Denver rumor of a first for taking Faried would interest me... also sounds like Hood has a lot of suitors right now... someone will pony up a pick.

Of course I would rather have Fournier than Biyombo. However, Orlando probably puts positive value to Fournier and negative value to Biyombo as they should. BUT, BUT the goal here isn't Biyombo or Fournier. It's Gordon. If we want Gordon, you give up less by taking Biyombo than you do if you take Fournier.

I hope you guys can understand this logic because it shouldn't be that hard to grasp.

Yeah, I won't Mr. Know-it-all. Financially, Fournier is WORSE FOR US THAN BIYOMBO. Suck it up and read it because it's true.
GTFO bro... you might actually be able to you know trade someone like Evan and get out of his last year while collecting an asset... meanwhile you got production out of him. You don’t have to keep the contract forever and he is a much better player at a position of scarcity.

I wouldn't trade Hood for a late first. That's what infection said, teams are seriously overvaluing firstrounders all of a sudden. For something like a late lottery, sure, that's different, but there's no way I'm giving up Hood for a 25th-> pick.

I agree. I think Burks to Denver in some kind of big trade package has some value for both sides. If we get Faried and/or Chandler back, Favors to Cleveland will be the last second deal once Cleveland strikes out on Jordan - https://www.slcdunk.com/2018/2/7/16...ick-favors-cleveland-cavaliers-cavs-utah-jazz

The trade fever has gotten to Lopo so badly that he is convincing himself Biyombo is a better contract to have than Evan Fournier.

They didn't say "a first." They said "a pick." In no universe does Denver trade us a first round pick this year. Their fans would burn down the building.

Agreed. Regardless if the market is genuinely hot for Hood or not, DL will do right by Utah.

Is Gordon worth limiting all other flexibility for the next 3 years though? If you have Biyombo at $17M/year and Gordon on a max then that's it. You're done making moves. That's your team your rolling with and you'll be limited on bench players you can sign for small deals.

It's not true

Fournier is not worth $17 million right now. He's definitely not worth $17 million in what this summer's market expects to be. Paying him $17 million in 2020-21 when we are trying to re-sign some key guys could be drastic. We could stomach contracts that go into 2019-20. Our threshold for poor contract tolerance ends after that summer. Biyombo would suck. Fournier would be the equivilant of AK's contract during the Deron years or Ostertag's contract during the Stock/Malone years.

It's only two years. Biyombo makes $17 next year and $17 in 2019-20. Fournier has that extra $17 for 2020-21. We don't have to re-sign Mitchell, Gobert, Ingles or O'Neale the next two years so Biyombo hurts but doesn't screw us. Fournier's contract could screw us.
