Jazz may stand pat

At the same time you can expect improvement at the least from the rookies, and likely see improvements from newer guys with more time in the system.

But I also get the point that we fell short. If we can add a shooter who doesn't tube the defense, and get some internal growth, then maybe we get over the hump.

I don't think we are at the point where we cash out and rebuild. I think we "Bake the cake" a bit, see if we can get the right piece, see what the team can do next year, and then reassess. If we are not top three in the West next year, we make more drastic moves.

So that would mean not over committing to Favs or X. Probably limit time or money on their deals. I don't know if we can keep either one of them with that I approach, but we should try.

Houston looked pretty pedestrian when they didn't get the calls they were used to getting, Houston. The offensive juggernaut looked like $#!+, think on that for a sec. Against is they got ask those calls. Capella was allowed to get away with all sorts of BS too.

We need DM to get the "star treatment" or it won't matter if we add stud players or stand pat.

I don't think there is a conscious effort to throw games. But I do think there is bias that effects how games are called. If you have the halo, you get the calls... until you play other stars with their own halo.

Very true.

I'm just not a fan of the refs when they decide to let things go because the team winning is already winning. A foul is a foul. Just because a team is up by 10 doesn't mean you just let it go. I thought there were a number of calls the refs didn't make that could have led to the game seeming out of hand in favor of Houston. But overall, missing 27 threes in a row cost them the game.

I think it's folly to assume that the team is just going to be as good or better if you march it back. Teams will not be sleeping on the Jazz and would also have an up-to-date scouting report. The magic might also be diminished. To swing from Locke 'No team in the history of the game comes back the same after the offseason.'

Additionally, isn't this a team that didn't win a championship?
I hear you on the last part.

Do you really think people were sleeping on the Jazz down the stretch? I don't. I think every game mattered and they were ready for us. And the stretch run lasted for like the last two months of the season. Maybe when Rudy first came back, teams were pencilling in a win. After the streak, I think we were just the better team.

We are going to be good next year, I have no doubt. It's that last part that is the kicker for me. Once we are competitive, it's not enough. We should strive to win it all.

What do we need to be in the game, to move to the next level? We are close now. Does internal growth do it? Or can we get that guy that puts over without jeopardizing the whole thing?

Okay I just went through a list of every free agent for this off-season. I’ve not seen him mentioned yet and I’m curious about him.

Mike Scott-6’8”-shot 40.5% from 3 on 2.1 attempts per game...how would he be as a stretch 4 along with a Crowder and maybe Sefaloshaz. He turns 30 in July and is a UFA.

Good call and points. I think Scott is worth mentioning. He can absolutely light it up off the bench. If we strike out on other options or if we trade a guy like Jerekbo, I like Scott a lot if Snyder thinks he plays D well enough to fit in. I would list him far down the list, but he's on the list.

I agree. I think it's human nature though to "have mercy" and favor the team that is behind at the moment. And Houston going 1 for 30 was definitely their death knell.

I think I saw Handlogtens Heroes speak highly of him before.

I mentioned him at the deadline. I really like him and think he could for in very well. He is a little old but he can do a lot of things. He plays defense and hustles. On offense he does a lot. He is a playmaker who can shoot, I think he is a very smart player. He would be a great backup 4 who can start sometimes.

Plus he is a great locker room guy that everyone likes.

I think he could bring what Booker brought a couple years ago with better shooting.

I wonder if the Jazz would sign him. He got arrested for a drug possession charge in 2015 for molly and marijuana. The case got thrown out because the court ruled it was racial profiling because the cop lied about the reasons he pulled them over.

And Quin coached Scott in Atlanta, so I guess he would know if he wanted him or not.

I really don't think Scott is a playmaker at all though. He wasnt very good in Atlanta and played pretty well in Washington. In Atlanta role players, like in Utah, are given more responsibility. In Washington you are just playing off Wall and letting him make plays for the team.

Yeah I don’t see him as a playmaker but as a cheap option to be a solid stretch 4, he may make a lot of sense.

Maybe a front loaded 1/1 deal.

How much do we think Bjelica is gonna get?

I can’t imagine, in this market, that he gets more than about 6M per.

Thoughts?

Just having a hard time seeing a lot of utility for Bjelica being significantly better than Jerebko. Perhaps a more willing/confident shooter but they attempt the same amounts of three per minute. I get the idea that he was misused, but what are we anticipating from him?

Per 36 mins

Jerebko
46.6% FG
41.4% 3P
80.7% FT
4.8 3PA
7.8 REB
1.3 AS
13.6 points

Bjelica
46.1% FG
41.5% 3P
80% FT
5 3PA
7.2 REB
2.3 AS
11.9 points

As I don't see him being that large of an upgrade, I'd just rather roll with the continued locker room chemistry that Jonas is already a part of.
