Favors Expected to Make Decision on Monday

Whats everyone's gut feeling on this? the longer the decision takes is it better or worse for our chances of retaining Favs?

My gut feeling is that he has known he is going to Atlanta for a while. I think he takes less money for longer years to be close to family and friends.

We went out to Atlanta and met with him for 3 hours to try to change his mind.

They gonna rent their space (for picks)or pick up someone younger than Favs. They don’t want to be good yet.

I don't think Favors makes them a good team by himself. I think he is allowed to "showcase his talent more" while they build for the future. We all know he's an amazing lockerroom guy and would be a great influence on a young team. They could lock him up to some Ingles type declining contract and he could be close to home.

If I'm Atlanta, he's exactly the type vet I want to bring in to mentor this young team.

I dunno I dont think he goes to Atlanta to play for a losing team, he plays 3 or 4 more years at the jazz maybe another short contract or two after that and his number hangs from the rafters, maybe he wins a ring. Would one or two million when you already have made millions really make you walk away from a legacy?

He lives in my building. He hasn't move out yet. His truck has been parked in the same spot now for over a month. Whatever that means.

It's also possible that he signs a 4 year contact and in a couple years he's disliked because he doesn't have a starting role on our team but he's making so much money which keeps us from adding talent.

It's possible that he becomes our version of Udonis Haslem, but that would mean he would take less money and play a smaller role. Based off his "showcasing talents" comments, doesn't look like that's the case.

The #stayfaves from Mitchell could mean Favors is leaving. Maybe it's been about going after Jabari the whole time.

We'll see. Do you know if he has business investments in Utah outside of basketball? Mate of mine who is a mad packers fan was chuffed because their QB bought a stake in the Bucks which makes him believe he has no intention of leaving as a free agent. I told him the Bucks suck but he didn't seem to care.

Wait... so the guy who wants to extract assets from every team to rent cap space we don't have would want to sign a vet who will be past his prime on a clearly tanking team when they are one of the only teams that can get draft assets for taking on dead salary.

Nah... they gonna help Denver, OKC, etc. and get firsts... unless they can get Capela or Lavine or some other young upside guy on a cheap deal. Favs can buy a thousand houses in Atlanta for what he makes... his wife and family can go wherever is easiest... his travel schedule during the season is likely tough on families. Wives like to be close to they family when they have kids.

Atlanta needs an adult. Plus, they have $25 million in space anyway. They could easily spend $10 on Favors and have room for salary dumps. And they still have small expirings like Dedmon and Muscala which can be used in bigger deals (like send Muscala for Faried and save Denver $6 million for an asset).

21M in space... would they use 10M for Favs? We would... so I assume they’d have to beat that.

They might factor in... but I think they are looking at a different route.

I'm surprised that you guys think he's leaving... I think he's basically telegraphed that he's staying at this point. Guess we'll see

Favors is thinking:

1. He came in more fit than ever and was healthy all season.

2. He's been a good team guy/never caused trouble.

3. He's played really well at times(G.S. series and OKC series)

4. He's been here since he was 19.

5. He doesn't feel loved.

6. He played nice with the Jazz his last contract.

7. Where's his #stayward billboard?

8. We never committed to him.

This is decision is an emotional one. I think he just wants to feel appreciated.
