TF is all this about...

You can't blame it on the rule changes.

Watch Memphis play. They are a big slow team like the Jazz and they play great defense. They start freaking Kyle Anderson at SF, a guy slower than Ingles, and they do great.

I mean, I'm sure the rule changes play a part, but there are a lot of things wrong with the Jazz. I can't say with certainty what's the order of magnitude for every item.

I thought tonight they played really well for the most part on D. Mitchell was awful early on D and Gobert is still playing at like 75% effectiveness (but that's still pretty good), but the overall defensive effort and focus seemed up tonight.

difference is memphis has

conley who is about 10 lightyears above rubio/exum and they also have gasol who isn't rudy on defense, but he has an offensive game that is about 20 lightyears ahead of rudy.

I would play Mitchell at the PG and make Ricky the backup. Ricky can't play more than 20 - 24 minutes.
I would start Burks or Royce at the SG, with the other being the back-up.
I would start Ingles at the SF spot with Royce and Burks as the back-up.
I would start Crowder at the PF spot and let Thabo take the backup minutes.
I would start Rudy, make Favors the backup at the 5 and take trade calls on Favors.
Exum has to prove himself in practice and earn spot minutes.

Marc Gasol is an elite triple-threat player on either the high post or low post. He really makes that team work. TBH, he's more advanced than Jokic, imo.

Sorry Quin, Professionalism is a bigger principle than Defense. Sometimes you got eat the humble pie. The Jazz need some shooting -- trade for THJ and live with the minor downgrade in defense.

You should read this post you submitted, look yourself in the mirror and then you’ll be looking at the person you described here.

have you seen rudy play? A man with his stature should be getting 30 points and 30 rebounds a night. the guy is afraid of the basketball, if any contact comes by he shy's away like a scared giant baby.

Favors has much more finesse, smooth, smart. better shooter, better passer. doesn't fumble and juggle the ball like goFart

Actually, both Gobert and Favors have a very limited offensive skill set, IMO. Gobert lacks touch and, unless is dunking, has some difficult finishing -- despite his size! Also, since his, let's say, "moves" are very very simple, he seems to get stripped quite often when the Jazz, to exploit a mismatch, try feed him in the post oftem. The good news are that he is an average-to-good passer (for a 5), plays with intensity and doesn't force things up. Favors, on the other hand, has been around forever and still have a very limited offensive repertoire. His "moves" inside are also very simple and predictable -- although not as much as Gobert's. Through the years, he has developed what I would call "a good touch" (at least for a 4 or 5) from mid-range, but that doesn't really put pressure on defense since he doesn't seem to be able neither to expand his range to beyond the 3 point line nor to fake the shot and drive to the basket -- as, for instance, Malone could do even at the twilight of his career. So, Favors can only dunk by being fed near the basket or take long 2s, a shot that all the defenses hope opponents take. Also, he seems somewhat lackadaisical offensively. The moral is: both of them are problematic and to have them on court simultaneously ends up cramping the offense unless the other three players absolutelly could not be left alone.

I also have some doubts about how much Favors and Gobert practice their individual offensive skills, since they seem to be learning those at a very slow rate. It is one thing to improve slowly when you are already good at something, but both of them are quite raw, quite basic. It's disheartening!

Gobert s handle is garbage, and he definitely is scared of contact. Just no other way to put it.

Also.....I get we can’t expect Stockton or Malone toughness, and I adore Donovan.....but does anyone feel like some of this sitting is a bit soft at times?

Yes I’m aware this will take some flack.
