Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

Samanic worked out today. Walt Perrin's comments on Samanic:
** Pretty good athlete/vertical athlete
** Has the ability to become a pretty good shooter
** Can put the ball on the floor out on the perimeter to create shots
** Good passer

He went up against Gafford and also switched onto guards out on the floor.

I wouldn't *hate* it if the Jazz drafted Gafford. He's a lottery guy for me and the best center in the draft.

If we are talking Favors replacement for the backup 5 minutes and giving up on Bradley's development, he'd be a really good fit.

He was considered a top-20 guy last year. Now some of the shine has worn off a bit since he played a very similar role this year. I'd have to look at the numbers, but I'm not sure I see a big gap between Gafford and Jaxson Hayes at Texas just from watching them a little. They do similar things. Hayes is being projected to the Hawks at #10 on a lot of mocks.

Looks like Hayes is an inch taller and an inch longer. Hayes has higher FG%, but didn't really put up better numbers than Gafford did as a freshman. Gafford has an extra 20 lbs on Hayes and has a better body to play the 5 atm. Hayes might have more touch around the rim.

Hayes is just the new shiny toy.

I see Gafford as being more workman like and a guy who knows how to stick to his strengths.

I think that’s the kid I want them to pick. I like the idea of what he is and could be... I have no idea if he’s actually good but I could see him being an overlooked talent because of the Euro thing and I think had a weird contract issue. Seems like a serious kid... worked hard on his body which takes smart hard work. Hopefully he’s a good shooter rather than just a white Euro guy you think could be a good shooter.

I would also like us to get Jordan Bone and for him to be good so we could start saying teams “got boned” could be the next you got jingled.

I know almost nothing about him but I’m ready for him to bone the nba.

that wooten kid out of oregon would come in and be a top 5 athlete in the league. not sure he can play basketball worth a lick, but dude jumps out of the gym. Zylan Cheatam is another guy who i wouldn't mind seeing the Jazz draft in round two. a long 6'8", he's crazy athlete, can shoot the [college] three, plays hard and should be able to switch 1 thru 4. reminds me some of taurean prince.

I like Cheatham. Don't get the prince comp tho. Pretty unique player.

Can't shoot worth **** tho. 44% was a fluke on less than one attempt per game. His ft% dropped drastically after taking a transfer year off somehow.

just in the sense that they are both in that 6'8" range, where they can switch everywhere, coming into draft both can shoot it a bit, they play hard and defend.
Yeah, I don't think he can shoot it at all and he's kind of point forwardy. He'd be more exciting if he had shooting upside or better stock %s.

Zylan Cheatham seems to be moving up boards too. That or draft sites are finally catching up to NBA teams when it comes to him. I noticed theringer moved him up in their last update.

The Ringer's mock seems crazy to me. They have Gafford at 46th.

What makes him most interesting to me are the flashes of his mobility and his vision passing the ball. Before DWill really took over the Jazz, AK47 was the guy the Jazz ran the offense through. He was a whirling dervish who beat guys due to his mobility and ability to make plays off the pass. If Samanic has even 40% of that in his game, he starts to become a unique triple-threat player as a 6'11" big with inside-outside scoring ability. He just played so little on the ball in Europe the past year or two, that I have no idea if he really has that ability.

Check out a couple plays starting at 1:39 --

I think he's a better athlete and can do more with the ball than Earl Clark, imo. A few people have said Cheatham has a bit of Draymond in him

Yeah, well I try not to compare 2nd round picks to guys who are going to be in the HOF.
