What's new

We need a backup Center

Then get a good 4 who can rebound and catch the ball and score, but can't shoot 3s, and play small ball when Rudy sits?

A premier player will also demand more minutes. We need someone who is happy with spot minutes and occasionally more minutes when defending players like AD. Who can that be that the Jazz can get.

I am guessing that 3pt shot in positions 1 to 4 is a Huge deal for management. They want the jazz to play this way unless a unicorn player is available.

I don't think Bradley is the main problem. Yea he fouls too much but many of his fouls are rookie fouls. He gets one or two a game. He does get lost some times on defense but come on the guy is 21 and just seeing his first action in the NBA. I think in a year or two he can be a very serviceable backup.

I can't think of any real option to backup Rudy. Maybe Bogut becomes available. Joe talks him into playing for the Jazz. He played well in a reserve role during the world cup. He is experience and doesn't need minutes. I fine with Bradley as the backup. What the Jazz really need is a long wing or a PF who can shoot and rebound and play defense. Do you think Karl Malone could play 15 minutes for the Jazz? lmao. I don't have a good answer on what to do but watching the Jazz length/rebounding and another player SF/PF seem to be a more glaring need.

He is not good enough to be our back up against playoffs teams but he is definitely not a scrub like you try to present him. He is still very young and learning. His defense is still mostly bad but it's also true that he gets some bad calls (which in fair is also result of him fouling a lot so they don't give him a benefit of doubt). But offensively he has improved a lot. Just look at those statistics (I took them from slcdunk):
Points per possesion as roll man:
Rudy - 1,14
Tony - 1,54
Ed - 0,6

Screen assists per 36
Rudy - 8,2
Tony - 7,1
Ed - 5,4

Total rebounding percentage:
Rudy - 20,6
Tony - 17,7
Ed - 17,4

Defensive field goal percentage:
Rudy - 39,1
Tony - 42,6
Ed - 48,5
funny people here trash on TB by saying the same stuff over and over. never did they make any real effort on finding the records/stats to back them up cuz they knew they couldn't

morris, portis, bertans...

when we first acquired JC i wanted us to trade him for some one off of that list... but he's becoming too valuable to our bench now so i guess we'll just have to wait till the summer to see what happens

That’s the difference, though. People are talking about a backup center now and you’re saying “nah, get a 4 who can shoot, rebound, and play defense” in the summer.

We will wait till the summer to see what to do with JC, not wait till summer to solve our PF problem. The solution right now is to trade Conley. I like someone who mentioned Conley for Dieng/RoCo. Make sense for both sides. RoCo is having a down year and they wanted Dieng long gone. Both log good minutes at the 4 or even small ball 5. Conley will be the starter PG they needed.

Tony Bradley is #2 in the NBA in offensive rebonding rate behind Enes Kanter ahead of Steven Adams and Andre Drummond (min 10 mins per night) Since Dec 24th when he went into rotation he is 3rd behind Zubac and Dwight Howard.

PER or Rate metrics mean little to me. That said, I don't hate Bradley's play mainly because it's his first time getting any minutes in a rotation. For the cheap contract, you can't ask for more give he's essentially doing rookie things right now. That said, we NEED to figure out something with Davis.

I would say that Bradley is an average back up center, the problem is that both LA teams have arguably the best back-up centers in the league. Therefore, if you can make a meaningful upgrade you do.

One ray of hope is that Bradley is basically a rookie this year, and rookies get better during the year. You can see that he is already much better now on both sides of the ball than he was when Davis first went out. I was in the camp of Bradley being a bust, but I am happy to be wrong. He is clearly an NBA player, and is our future back up center (unless we can get some value for him in a trade).

So guy who plays spot minutes and can also defend AD. . .

In a year or two, he will actually be skilled enough to be a low end starter. Petty good value for where he was drafted.

I agree with that, Bradley has been surprising so far in his minutes. I never really thought of him as a bust as late firsts rarely stick around in the league. That said, he's proving himself and I'm happy for that. We still need a depth at the 4/5, but Bradley helps a ton spelling Gobert. I hope he keeps it up.
