Following potential 2012 draftees

Could be wrong, but I thought jr was more of a SG? There's not much out there to be excited about. I predict, that 3 years from, PG's will be few and far between in the NBA (good ones). There will be the handful of stud vets, but the young talent .. ouch.

He is a SG. I was thinking of Darius Morris, a 6'5" PG from Michigan that got drafted in the 2nd round this past year. That's how desperate I am to find PG prospects....

Depending on if the jazz get 1 or 2 draft picks next year will determine if I like Marshall or not. If the an get a prolific scorer first then Marshall is a safer pick.

I'm not worried about him being the next Darko...but sometimes I do worry he'll be worse than Knight.

Certainly valid concern. Some may recall I was cautioning on Knight, pre-draft last year, that his first step was worrisome to me. It's offset by his shooting (can't sag off him), but putting a taller defender on him (that he can't shoot over) could really stagnate an offense.

That's also, kind of, my problem with Marshall. The difference is he has no quick first step nor an effective shot. He's a bit risky to think his passing alone can suffice.

For my money, I want a guy that can easily get into the paint, wreak havok on an opposing defense, and hit the open man. If he's also a shooter .. watch out. I just want a PG that can call a play, create the play, and execute the play. Emphasis on CREATE the play. MAKE the defense give you what you want.

I know that this thread is for actual players but I am excited to see what UNLV and Saint Louis do for the rest of the season.

The Billikens are certainly a surprise and on a nice run, have you always had an interest in them .. or just mostly interested in seeing what the over-performers can accomplish?

Yes. I actually was extremely impressed with UNLV. They seemed to be in control the entire game against UNC. I know that they were basically the home team and that their crowd makes games more difficult. With that being said, they looked hungry and willing to do the dirty work as a team, and not just individuals. I would say that they might just be the surprise team of the season so far.

I thought they looked like a nice team, but I was more impressed with the coaching. Loved their freshman Gil (iirc?), gonna be a stud. The coaching, however, won that game and Dave Rice deserves ALL the kudos that can be heaped on him. Best coaching job I've seen in .. maybe ever .. was astonished throughout the game.

I like your take. Either way I am excited to see how the season unfolds for them.

Marshall cannot and will not be an NBA player unless he develops a shot. People will play 5 feet off of him rendering him ineffective. I like the kid and want him to succeed, but unless he develops a shot he won't.

I wouldn't be quite that definitive/strong. But then again, I'm not a dukie.

I don't let who I root for effect how I view opposing players NBA prospects. If you look back, you would see me continuously saying that I thought Tyler Zeller would be an effective player in the NBA. Do I like UNC as a program? No. Do I recognize when they have good players? Absolutely. I think Marshall is an amazing college player, and he fits UNC's offense very well. He does have the added benefit of playing with people like Harrison Barnes, Zeller, John Henson....guys that he can just give the ball to and let them do work. Obviously he has amazing vision and is a great passer, I just think he will struggle in the NBA. As I said earlier, He's Marcus Williams from UConn all over again.

Fair enough and good post.

I especially like this part.

So what's everyone's top 5 looking like at this point? Mine is probably something like...

1. Andre Drummond (he's been producing more, and still has the most upside of anyone in the draft.)
2. Anthony Davis (nuff' said)
3. Quincy Miller (has totally lived up to the hype.)
4. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (athletic freak with intangibles coming out his ***. And his shot hasn't been that bad.)
5. Harrison Barnes (been a little disappointing so far. Doesn't seem much different than last year. Doesn't seem like he has that "it" factor it takes to be "the guy" for an elite team.)

Drummond - Everything needed to be a once in a decade center. Intangibles are still HIGHLY in question.
Davis- I may take him first, actually. Another insanely skilled big man with a broad frame and unquestionable intangibles. I think he'll take longer (3years) to get there, though.
Miller - I'm buying.
Barnes - Questionable desire. Got everything else. He's a solid 3 or 4 pick.
Any of Sullinger (too undersized for C, too unathletic for PF), K-G (fantastic motor and defense, can he improve his shot?), Perry Jones (another with tweener/intangibles questions), or MAYBE JLamb, Rivers, TJones .. still waaay early.

For those of you who didn't watch last night, Kidd-Gilchrist had a MONSTER dunk...enjoy

Thanks especially love the ginger in this vid.

I've seen Drummond many times in person and love everything about him, but Anthony Davis is just better in everyway early on. He will be special where as Drummond has the potential to be special.
