Spurs Doing What Jazz Should be Doing

I just don't see how they can give up 3-4 firsts + players for Murray and still have enough to land Rudy.
Collins, Hunter, Capela, Huerter, and Griffin. Some combination of those guys will get it done. We would love a draft pick, and maybe we get one in the 2028 or something, but I think the deal can get done.

If they move 3-4 picks to San Antonio it'd be almost impossible for them to include a pick in a Rudy deal. And if they traded 3/4 those guys plus Gallo they'd be losing like half their rotation.

Atlanta has an extra 1st in 2023 (Charlotte lottery protected). So let's say Atlanta gives 3 first round picks for Murray. Those could be 2 from 2023 and 1 from 2025.

Between getting Rudy Gobert and Murray, I could see Atlanta being willing to give up 4 first rounders. There's no reason to believe that any of those picks would be near the top 10 in that timeframe. Trae is signed until 2027.

Atlanta also has 4 extra 2nd round picks between now and 2027.

Griffin is like getting a lottery pick. He should have went top-10.

So we wouldn't be able to get a pick from them until 2027. I just don't see DA trading Rudy there after we failed to get anything done when they had a pick.

I agree, I'm a Duke fan so I watch every game, I love AJ Griffin. I personally think he'll be better than Paolo and potentially the best guy from the class. I was stoked when they took him knowing him might be a trade piece for us.

Who knows. Maybe San Antonio takes 2 from 2023 and one from 2027 while we get 2025.

Honestly, I'd be fine with Collins, Hunter, Griffin and Jalen Johnson. Give me that, and I'd be okay. Tons of youth and potential. Likely higher picks right there than anything Atlanta is going to have any time soon.

More like Hawks is doing what we should have done.

If you wanna trade multiple draft picks to get a backcourt partner for your franchise player, go get a guy who has the size/athleticism to cover multiple positions, is in the early-mid stage of his prime and on a super team-friendly contract. We accomplished none of these things.

Bingo. Hawks are going to trade 3 draft picks that will never be higher than #14 for a guy who fills a clear void on their roster.

If only we had hit on like 8-9 good players in the draft while still retaining most of our draft capital going forward...

All we had to do was wait. We didn't have to do the Conley deal. The biggest mistake we made was not using our resources on a perimeter defender.

If we would have replaced Favors with Bojan and just leave it at that, no telling where we might be right now.

no need to hit on any players as long as we keep all of our draft capital so we can pull the trigger at the right moment. instead, we didn't hit on any one AND gave away draft capital for the cheapest reasons at the worst moment

The Hawks are in the position that they're in because guys they've drafted such as Collins, Huerter, Hunter, Okongwu, and now AJG. Having 5 guys under 25 with high upside gives you a lot of trade capital to work with. We haven't acquired any good young players since we drafted Don legit 5 years ago.

I agree, I was saying that a couple of days ago. If we would've skipped on Udoka for either Desmond Bane/Jaden Mcdaniels and kept #30 last year and taken either Herb Jones/Ayo Dosunmu, a lot of our current roster issues would be fixed.

I love Rudy/Don and obviously love the team and want them to succeed. But our roster is just so poorly constructed and we really don't have very many avenues to get better due to our lack of young/developing talent, trade assets, and draft capital. So I won't be mad if/when we decide to blow it up, I'll always appreciate getting 6-8 years of these guys but sometimes you have to know when to fold em.

also hawks didn't take any unnecessary gamble on a guy like Kevin Love or Kemba Walker. instead they waited the right moment for Murray to become available.

I think we could do Gobert for Collins/Capela/Griffin or Gobert/Gay for Collins/Capela/Hunter

I really don’t think picks would be involved if we get one of Griffin/Hunter.

basically the Conley package for a 25yr old actual all-star who's significantly outperforming his contract.

Bane was the obvious of obvious of choices and we couldnt make it. Makes you re-think that draft picks will just solve your issues because GM's are complete morons sometimes.
