Jazz sign Darius Bazley to a 3 year NG

The jazz just need to sell him on being a 3 and D guy that is also a dangerous cutter. If he buys into that role and is showing the work ethic to build consistency from the outside then he could be a valuable role player for us. His size, length and athleticism are pretty much ideal for a defensive wing in this league.

Except hes not a defensive wing. Hes a modern day tweener. A man without a position and not in the good position--less way

Bazley might just be a textbook GLeague guy. Like Samanic, I'm not sure how he fits into a smaller role. He's not really a big or wing on offense or defense. Does not do the role player things well. It's not a matter of being "sold" on being a 3&D....it's that he lacks that ability.

Anyone remember when the Stars won the G League draft lottery and had the number 1 pick, the year Bazley was going to come out of HS and do a season in the G League before the NBA draft? We thought we were gonna get him but then he pulled out.

I guess it’s inevitable. You can’t avoid the Stars.

I thought Luka was decent last season. This season he he hasn't gotten much run. I know a lot of the board hates him so he is probably destined to be going overseas.

He is more than capable of being a solid defensive wing if that becomes his primary focus. Unfortunately he hasn't shown that commitment and the gleague doesn't help because he plays an offensive role there that is not even close to the role that he would play in the nba.

From Hoopsrumors:
  • The terms of Darius Bazley‘s new three-year deal with the Jazz are virtually identical to those of Kenneth Lofton‘s contract, Hoops Rumors has learned. Bazley will make $500K the rest of this season via Utah’s room exception, with various trigger dates on non-guaranteed minimum salaries in 2024/25 and ’25/26. Because this is Bazley’s fifth NBA season, his minimum salaries are worth more than Lofton’s, so the overall value of his contract is approximately $5.74MM, whereas Lofton’s is about $4.9MM. The other difference between the two deals is that Bazley’s final year is simply non-guaranteed, rather than a team option.
  • Isaiah Thomas, who is playing with the Salt Lake City Stars as he pursues an NBA comeback, credited Jazz CEO Danny Ainge for pulling the strings to get him a shot with the team’s G League affiliate, per Jay King of The Athletic. “Danny helped make this thing happen,” Thomas said of the veteran executive who previously had the guard on his roster in Boston. “He connected the dots.”

Look... something I don't think has been said. Darius Bazley just sounds like the name of a guy who is good at basketball. I think in a basketball movie I could absolutely see the name of the super cocky #1 prospect antagonist being Darius Bazley.

Watched some recent Bazley tape. I came away thinking the following:

His jumper shot looks improved. It is quicker and more consistent. So that is good.

I can see the Samanic comparison. Bazley overwhelmed guys with length and athletic ability.

As for his defense he averaged over a block and a steal a game in the G-league. But I felt his focus and work D was only mediocre.

It feels like his want to in D is lacking. Maybe the Jazz coaches can get through to him. I think he has the physical talent to guard 3’s and 4’s.

Opposite of that same concept. Dude, who is playing chess with the robotics club and has never seen a basketball court: Walker Kessler

Bazley spent a lot of time on my fantasy teams past couple of years, he'd go through stretches where he'd be dropping pretty good numbers, 15-16 points, 7-8 rebounds, 1-2 blocks, 1-2 steals. Than he'd go through stretches where those numbers would vanish into thin air and you'd be force to drop him. Rollercoaster ride, like the jazz lately, so mabye a match made in heaven?

It really doesn't matter if you are marginally better at a bunch of skills that aren't NBA level.
If you are looking for a better player than Luca then it does matter.
Better means better. Even if the amount of better is marginal.
