Following potential 2012 draftees

Right now looking at positioning I would say that q miller is our best chance. There is a chance if barnes doesn't turn it on the second half like last year he might slide. I could see a team taking miller ahead of Barnes because he has more potential.

We're a mess as to whether this draft has any relevance for us ... Having said that, no one (nobody at all) will take QMiller ahead of Barnes). IF we have a pick, I do 'sense' we have a shot at Miller .. and I wouldn't be upset.

Kids I think make a better pro than college ..

- Miller
- Rivers
- a few others that are not on the radar

He needs to be pushed .. more than most. He needs his ego to be stroked but, at the same time, he needs to be pushed to get better. He needs babysat more than most.
I saw the DX write up and it seemed to indicate he was past stuff like that. But I don't intensely follow any players mid-season.

Anyway, that's a little troubling. I feel like being a competitive animal is something you're born with.

Which is why I've been a bit standoffish about Miller .. and Pjones .. and Drummond .. I hate begging naturally gifted players to play.

I agree PKM, I would rather have a player with a little less talent but a guy who works his butt off and wants to get better. Give me 5 Millsap type players over AK type player any day.

I agree rivers is the biggest wild card. If he could play pg he would be a lock for us. If he could learn to play pg he would a lock. Now with burks being a good passer and Hayward being a good passer I think the jazz could get away with rivers at the point. He had a handle that could allow him to play pg.

How many winning combo guards have we ever seen in the NBA? Someone that doesn't get it might list Allen Iverson, but/and after that...???????? Jason Terry?

Say no to Rivers.

Hmm. Good point.

I don't think the term - nor the style of play - were in vogue then. The style of play being handle the ball and put on blinders.

But with your questions about Rivers, I would ask "Can a combo guard who isn't a great shooter succeed?".

Because pretty much every great combo guard, or one that really contributes to team success are very capable shooters.

Also, Louis Williams is doing great right now for the 76'ers.
I don't know about that, and it's coming off the bench. I don't think the Jazz should be looking for shooting guards in point guard bodies to come off the bench since they are already maybe stacked at SG relative to their other positions and still don't have a real SF or PG going forward.

That, and I don't think players like that are very integral to success. Maybe a nice accident (late pick that went well), but not a role that has to be filled.

Tony Parker early on was more of a combo guard, at least in style of play.
I don't know about anyone else, but I know it's easy for me to discredit his successes when considering his playing with the most skilled and fundamental big since Hakeem and for possibly the best coach of all time. It's pretty easy for Spurs fans to as well from what little I've seen.

For whatever this is worth, he might be the quickest and craftiest player I have ever seen, though.
