2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

This draft is just so weak. It's finding a needle in a haystack kind of draft. You hope to get lucky finding a gem. But chances are, you're getting a bench warmer IMO.

From talking to multiple guys who would know the Jazz liked Keyonte very early on in the cycle and Keyonte’s camp wasn’t very tight lipped about it.

Not sure about the interest in Bilal last year but that wasn’t very tight lipped either.

Last year, there was more consensus about who was going where. Plus, the draft was stronger at the top, so teams were less inclined to trade picks. Everyone could spell out who the top 8 - 10 players were. This year, things seem to be more up in the air. So it's harder to pin a certain player to a certain team.

I'm drinking the koolaide on Carter....His film is great. But to be devil's advocate, are we concerned about drafting a 6'3, 22 year old SG? Carter is a dog....but I'm not sure he's like Smart/Holliday where he can guard bigger wings. There's a lot hinging on his shot....and I'm still not totally convinced by his one year of decent shooting.
Carter's wingspan is 6' 8" and he has an extremely high motor. I think he is Smart on defense, but with more offensive game.

Smart can guard PFs though and sometimes switch on to centers. He's bigger and wider and stronger than I would guess Carter will be. Doesn't mean he won't be a worse defender though.

Maybe I'm overthinking this.....

I wonder if there are actually less trades for this draft than would be expected because A) teams feel like the talent is flat and B) they have less of an idea of what other teams are doing, i.e. they can't predict the draft and so there is higher risk of trading back and having your guy taken.

Also a son of a former player. Why do former role players have the best son’s?
Cuz of their mothers. Back in the days NBA role players ain't making enough money to go after super models. Most of them are high school sweet hearts who are also athletes themselves. Two athletes would produce an athlete son who's even more talented athletically.

He didn't shoot great from 3 and from what I understand his defense isn't great.

When I watch highlights the thing that sticks out is how comfortable he is with the ball in his hands for his size.
he's young. you're drafting him banking on his ability to hit the three and defend multiple positions. he has a beautiful stroke. i may be off base, but as a fan of dadiet, i'm viewing him as a shooter.

I always value how they play on the court versus measurements, but being devil's advocate 6'8 is just average for SG and it's definitely not a sure thing he has more offensive game than Smart.

Smart also has the ability to play full time PG. He's not a heliocentric offensive engine or anything, but being a ball handler is his most natural offensive position. Carter....I'm not sure about that. It would be a big departure than his role at Providence.

Lol, no he isn’t.

Also, Smart as a 20 year old (two years younger) Sophomore averaged 18 and 5 (and more stocks) with a 55 TS% and 27 PER. Apples to apples, he was a (much) better prospect (at least/especially considering the age/experience gap).

It's weak in the sense that I simply don't see enough gap between talent pool of the so-called “lottery” and guys you can draft well outside of it. We have seen so many guys dropping well outside of the lottery who were considered “top 5 talent“ in the last 30 days (dillingham, topic, etc) or so. This is like another class of 2013. Wouldn't be surprised to see the guy we take at 29 end up with a better career than the guy drafted at 10, just like Rudy vs Burke.

I like his shot as well, but I just think if you are drafting him to become a 3&D guy (two attributes he hasn't shown much of) then he's probably a 2nd rounder. If you think he can be a 6'8" ball in hand guy then that gets really interesting.

Maybe the best part of Dadiet is that he has multiple paths to getting on an NBA court.

Smart was also ~35 lbs heavier...which is insane. Yeah he's short, but he's built like a house and can still move like he does. Same with Dort. At 22 years old, there's definitely no guarantee that Carter can put on close to amount of size and if he did....will he be as quick as he is now? I think Carter will be a great defender nonetheless, but maybe not a great wing defender due to his size.

And this is coming from someone who has Devin Carter high on their board....I just feel like if we can't acknowledge concerns/cons for the players we're not actually doing any analysis.

What????

He's closer to Gordon Hayward than Diaw.

OK, I've only seen highlights, so that's why I'm asking the question.

I was just thinking of a comp for a 6'8" guy that wasn't overly athletic, but could play with the ball in his hands and Diaw came to mind (maybe because of the French connection).

Diaw was just such a hyper unique player I wouldnt comp anyone to him.

Who knows how Dadiet develops overall, but he has some interesting playmaking stuff. I think he's just as good as Buzelis, if not better.
