Following Potential 2025 Draftees

So I took a look at the top prospects with and without the next best player (or the one who effect their offensive role the most). The idea is to look at a prospect when they aren't playing with the guy who is changing their role the most. Take this with a grain of salt because the sample sizes are small.

Flagg w/o Kon: Pretty much the same across the board. More usage+ast% as expected. Efficiency about the same

Kon w/o Flagg: Usage up a bit, efficiency way down but still high. AST% goes up significantly.

Harper w/o Ace: Very similar.

Ace w/o Harper: Usage skyrockets, efficiency is lower, but not a major drop off. AST% even lower.

Edgecombe w/o Wright: Usage way up, efficiency is down sizably, AST% significantly rises.

Tre w/o Kaluma: Usage up a bit, efficiency similar (but more FT's), AST% rises slightly.

Fears w/o Moore: Usage is slightly up, efficiency increases a decent amount, AST% is unchanged.

Kas w/o Boswell: Usage slightly up, efficiency increases a TON, AST% increases significantly.

He was 6' his junior year at HS. 6'5 senior year to w/e he is now

Listed at 6'8 now....I'm not one to eagerly await a player's measurements, but he's definitely bigger now and that could explain how he's gotten so much better during his college career and is developing faster than his peers. He's not Thompson Twin level on the list of best athletes, but he's up there.

It's nice to see you do this. Over the years, I've gone deeper and deeper with my prospect evaluations, and this is always one of the things I look at. Context matters (role, minutes, teammates, etc).

If anyone wanted to watch with me, Thiero's defense film starts at around 52 minutes on this video. My initial impressions:

- Wow this guy is super athletic. Explosive leaper and covers up so much ground. Defensive mistakes turn into highlights because he's so explosive
- Lot of possessions where he's matched up against opposing PG's. He's a great athlete, but not as laterally quick as someone like Jaden McDaniels. He can get beat off the dribble by the quickest guys.
- When it's not a super quick guard, he seems to stay in front well and he's built like a house. Can't overpower him.
- Seems to be involved in a lot of miscommunications....but you probably aren't finding clips of the switches that don't get messed up, only the switches that goes wrong
- Does gamble a bit
- Great defensive hands

He reminds me of DJJ. I think he's a little less quick, and nobody is quite as explosive as DJJ, but he probably has a lot more strength and has more size at the same age. Think he will be excellent guarding bigger wings and will probably have a better time matching up to physical forward types like Randle than matching up with quick PG's.

This is Jerry Engleman's board. If you don't know he is, he's a stats guy whose worked for the Mavs, Suns, and created ESPN's RPM back in the day. I'm only bringing up his board 1) it's different and I think we suffer from too much group think and 2) he's not making his board to be edgy like a random poster might. I've been following his draft reports, and while he's a stats guy, he's also done a lot of film watching. He has some weird takes, but I value some opinions that are different from the norm.

1. Cooper Flagg
2. Dylan Harper
3. Ace Bailey
4. Collin Murray-Boyles
5. Kon Knueppel
6. Ben Saraf
7. Rasheer Fleming
8. VJ Edgecombe
9. Walter Clayton Jr.
10. Nolan Traoré
11. Kasparas Jakučionis

Do you have a link? Does he post analysis or just the big board?

I would be interested to see what he is seeing, because I don't see how he can justify some of his opinions.

Room for expanded role?
Kon w/o Flagg: Usage up a bit, efficiency way down but still high. AST% goes up significantly.
I'm liking Kon more and more the more we approach the draft.

Harper w/o Ace: Very similar.
...
Ace w/o Harper: Usage skyrockets, efficiency is lower, but not a major drop off. AST% even lower.
AST% even lower = the only other guy who can put the ball in the basket gone.
Edgecombe w/o Wright: Usage way up, efficiency is down sizably, AST% significantly rises.
I'm very hesitant about Edgecombe. On one hand I do think he's a winning player. I think he's the type of player we need the most right now... the type that does the right things, defends, makes winning plays(kind of like Castle was last year). On the other hand... I was a bit concerned with what I saw of him as a primary or even secondary initiator.
Tre w/o Kaluma: Usage up a bit, efficiency similar (but more FT's), AST% rises slightly.

Fears w/o Moore: Usage is slightly up, efficiency increases a decent amount, AST% is unchanged.

Still haven't watched them seriously. I hope I won't have to rush to watch them after today.

It’s a paid Substack post. If you have a questions about a certain player I can summarize, but I don’t feel great about posting the whole thing here.

I like Tyrese Proctor as much as the next guy. There's no way he's a lottery-level talent, imo.

I do think that Traore could be a real possibility for the Jazz if they stay at #21.
I mean, sure he could be. Could he be the 14th best player in this class? I dont see why not. Do I have him that high? No, but it's not crazy if you think that of him.

Only thing on here I strongly disagree with is Saraf at 6.

Maybe he is someone I would like if I watched more closely. Havent seen a ton, but what I've seen I'm not super high on.
